yeah man i should, im just so stressed about the box/size deal, i might tomorrow. i only want 2 and there both gonna be the rocklock, im sure that KK is great, but im more into the rocklock, LoL. pics when i do.

For sure I thought about running 8 of them fans I was talking about :).. Get around 970ish cfm through 1 good size filter should do the trick as there case fans it will cut some of there suction out..

I hooked up my exhaust to vent into the attic and all seems well! Temp is holding strong.

I did however add an intake pulling air from the coldest part of the house. "between 60-70 degrees right now." Its just my 70 cfm 4" PC fan but it moves the air pretty good.
Anyway I sealed off the box and it was a solid 88-91 in the box so either I need a more powerful intake fan. Like I was saying earlier I want a 6" inline fan for the intake but I'm affraid that still wont be enough with the heat from the ballast and the bulb even the 265 exhaust fan has a hard time cooling this box down...?

Most likely I'll have a 400 watt cool tube with the bigger intake fan and the ballast mounted externally for the next grow but do you guys thing the bigger intake fan might help now? if its moving more of that cold air through the box? I'm probably going to try it because I plan on adding it anyway so we will see soon :)

If you're running a cooltube (or any other air cooled hood for that matter) with a 400 in it that exhaust fan should be plenty. Just have the fan pull the exhausting air through the light and out and you should be good to go. If your filter isn't too restrictive you can connect that to the intake side of the light too but it will reduce the airflow a bit. Typical store bought filters cause about a 10% loss is what I've been told and your DIY one will probably be a little less restricive than that.

I had my 400 in a Supernova hood with a 9" desk fan connected to it via 4" ducting and I had the fan slowed way down to regulate things better. When I first hooked it up there was no change in temps when the light turned on and during the noght it would even cool down in there so I wired a dimmer switch to the fan and turned it down.

Why dont you put the ballast on the outside of the box?

For now, a bigger intake fan or a big passive intake so the exhaust fan is able to pull air through the room at max efficiency. Not much else you can do other than a bigger exhaust fan but I'd sure think you'd should be fine with what you have.

I was wondering the same thing. They create quite a bit of heat.

Thats the plan, I was reffering to the setup I have in there now. "The 250mh with the attached ballast."

I do plan on hooking a store bought filter up to the 400 along with this 265cfm fan which is actually overkill for my box even with the 10% decrease lol. I have no doubt that my temp will be controlable at that point! Remember this is only a 2x3x6 box. I can't wait to get the new light but for now I was thinking that the bigger intake fan would help cool the box if it where sealed.

Yea like I said above the exhuast fan I have is actually overkill for this box but with this light it comes in handy :)

With the hot air vented to the attic now and the whole side of the box open "passive intake lol" its stays right around 80 which is awesome and I can deal with that for the rest of this grow but I was going to veg my girls under this light and I was wondering what size intake fan would be effiecient with having the 265cfm fan for exhaust?

When I have the 400 watt cool tube do you think the 70 cfm intake fan will be enough sealed up? It seems like it should be with all the heat being sucked out? If thats the case I'll just stick it out until I can get another light!

The whole point is I want to seal the box but with this light it seems almost impossible haha..

If you're exhausting the room it's technically not sealed and the only way to manage temps in a sealed room is AC as far as I know. I think I sealed room with co2 and AC would be bomb since there'd be no odor leaking out through an exhaust but it's an expensive way to go and I can't afford it atm.
I got maself a used Ozone gen for cheap the other day so I'll be using that in my exhaust ducting in the new spot as well as using the filter I already have to scrub inside the room. I hope it works good.

You'll get your temps in check soon enough. You might try an intake fan that's closer to the size of the exhaust. Just a bit smaller but not much like maybe one of the inline duct booster fans, like a 4" or something.

THanks bro, I wanted to ask you about your setup if you don't mind. I know your running the 400, I was wondering what size your space is and what size pots you use? I'm tyring to figure out how I want to do my next grow and I'm going to be picking up a 400 so I'm just trying to get a few idea! THanks in advance!!
Yeah its 400 watter, the tent is 4x2x5, kinda small but it works, i was using gallon pots but i wanna do 3 gals next time. I didnt have any ventilation besides a fan pushing air out, and one pointing up at the light. Had no real temp probs besides a couple times.

Lightproof was probably a better word than sealed :) This damn attached ballast is probably causing most the heat problems when I shut the room up. I'm sure with the cooltube it will be a lot easier to control temps!

thats exactly what I've been looking into the duct booster fans! I think that will work well along with the new setup and a "lightproof box" lol!

Thanks bro, thats almost Identical to my setup only mine is actually 3x2x6 lol. What kind of yield do you think you pulled with 5 plants, it is 5 right? I've got the exhaust fan already, now I just need the light! This current grow was with a 250 metal halide and 200 watts of cfls.

In the first pic you can see the side I have to leave open to control temps. It does stay pretty cool in there if that side is open though! Can't wait for the HPS:mrgreen:
