What are some good brand names for hps lighting? I'm looking on ebay, but a lot of it looks like cheap Chinese crap.

fuck ebay they do nothing but send u bullshit equipment will never buy from there again use htgsupply.com or a local hydro shp they usually carry brand name stuff plus warranties

lumatek has good ballasts..hydrofarm..theres one brand thats really good and i can think of the name of it..bah

also make sure you get a digital or electronic ballast..no magnetic

if your buying online and see price thats too good to be true then it usually is look for sites with customer reviews and feedback be carefull alot of bulbs look the same

Why not?I hve a mag ballast and been running for 3 years now.Next will be a digital ballast but why you sy no magnetic?
