Stem Rot -- Should I chop?

Hi all,

I'm currently growing one Easy Ryder (AKA AK47 x Lowryder #2) in a micro-DWC PC case. I believe her stem has developed a case of stem rot. Currently day 22 from sprout (and like day 5 or so of flowering).

I think the fungus was contracted a little over a week ago just before doing some defoliation. My rock-wool was a bit too damp for a few days before this picture was taken one week ago.

From what I've read, it sounds like this condition is pretty much incurable, however she appears to be growing normally. It doesn't particularly look like overall plant development has been affected at all. She is just starting to flower, and I'm seeing more pistils every day.


What would you recommend I do? My current plan is to keep a close eye on her for the next few days and watch for any improvement or further degradation. If I let her keep going (and assuming she lives), I expect my yield will suffer. Is it worth it, or should I just chop and sanitize considering I'm only three weeks in?

Get more ventilation in your growing area so you wont have to deal with moisture problems. Try Using a salt clearing soltuion and a hydro fungicide and be easy on the nutrients while its recovering. Or start fom scratch because mold spreads..

I have four fans in my case (two in, two out), so I'm confident ventilation isn't an issue. The reason the rock-wool was extra wet for a bit is because I did some top watering with (apparently) inadequate drainage into my reservoir. The cube has been at a good moisture level for the past week at least.

Thanks for the feedback, *BUDS. I'll keep her going as long as I can, but after looking at the plant again this morning I'm not very optimistic :-\.

I'll be getting a fungicide for hydro systems as soon as I can, but I'm thinking it's probably too late.

Here's a new picture so you can see what I mean:


The fungus has visibly advanced since I scraped a bit of it off yesterday. It is the sort of off-white weird-textured stuff all over the rotting area. The stringy stuff is plant fiber that came loose yesterday with the initial layer of fungus that I scraped. Like I said, I'll keep her going as long as I can but I'm preparing for a chop. I have another rock-wool cube soaking and a seed prepping in a cup of water. Ho hum.

I had this same problem with grodan before. Try buying Sure To Grow cubes. They have better water repulsion which is what your looking for in starts. Faster draining=more water and nutrient uptake.

Hey all,

I just wanted to close out this thread with a quick update. The stem is doing fine, as is the plant. It actually got super thick right where the stem rot was. Check it out!

All I did was keep the area dry and as clean as I could. Other than that I just let her do her thing and she recovered just fine.
