Hour of Black Light Per Day Yields More Crystals?

A friend of mine was telling me that if a blacklight was used on a plant for about an hour per day, the plant would produce mmore crystals as a form of defense against the light. is there any truth to this? any help would be great. do plants form crystals as a form of defense even?

Yeah black lights are not even light to plants. Darkness would be better(like a 11/13 light dark cycle.) or I've heard a blue mh for the last weeks will do the same effect as you're looking for. Hope this helps some.

the light intensity and cycle determine how dense the crystals get as a "defense mechanism". they degrade in the light, but grow back in the dark. if the plant thinks it needs alot of them to protect it from the sun or amount of sun, it will produce as many as it can in the dark hours.
soooo........ i would say, and have noticed, that reducing the light hours like volumecutter said, as well as pulling the light a few inches further away, for about the last week or so can help max out crystal production:peace:

I am glad to have checked this post. I am into flowering at the moment and making a game plan for the last weeks. Your advice just made a page in my playbook. Thanks a ton!

black lights put out uva radiation and in such levels that they can easily hurt the plant.

what you want is uvb. This can come from reptile lights sold in most pet stores. Though i just read a review by a consistent UVB user that removed his light for one grow and actually saw no difference. So i am unsure if it is even that much difference, though i see the logic behind it.
