a thing i read on the ecogro site that made sense was power in = power out and therodynamics. i failed physics but i half understand what therodynamics is all about like with 400w hps only about 120w of that is actual light and the rest is lost. i know led is more efficient but the best people on some led forums i go to say the best single color led is only about 50% efficient, so assuming kesil used that, 30w would be about 15w of pure light, right? whats this photon flux density theyre talkign about, i saw that on ecogro too but what is it?
I suggest you contact Kessil. They are very responsive to that sort of question, and can give you a solid answer.

And Kessils are $240 at Greners.

Yea but a 90w is 245 at the ecogro site and I see the same type panels for even cheaper like 175 online on ebay and alibaba - what is the difference??

Go to Kessil.com and read this page on A Different Breed of LED. The tech is vastly different.

first off sorry if this has been answered a thousand times but i just cant read any more pages to get an answer (already read aprox 20 misc pages)
im thinking of commissioning someone from alibaba for a 90w ufo or 120w model to replace my current cfl lighting due to heating issues on a rubbermaid stealth grow. seeing if anyone knows a good seller on that site that they have used or on this site i found.

im wondering if i will have enough room to grow my lowrider autoflower crops with led due to needed space from the bulbs to the tops of my plants. please check out the grow in my sig and let me know what you think

You're welcome, Griffta. I'm learning from this as I go along, too. One thing I would suggest is that you consider augmenting the veg stage with a blue GrowSpot bulb, or (God forbid) a cool white cfl. Vegging went well enough with the Kessil magenta alone, but I think a little more on the blue end would've grabbed another gear.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with this approach, however you configure it. You will not believe what 30w of light can do when it is delivered by this platform.

Good luck.
Can I ask if your growing in a tent or cab? If so, what kinda fans are you using with your kessil? I presume as its LED you dont need a powerful fan to keep everything cool.

I have a small desk fan to keep the air moving. It does get a little warm and humid sometimes in my temporary tent. It's the smallest Secret Hardin, and even using a Kessil you need to move the air. Plus, it's good to move the foliage a bit. I probably should have a stronger fan, but this one is working for now.

thanks dude. Just checking out those secret jardin tents. the DR40 (smallest one) would fit brilliantly inside my best grow space (a kinda slide-door wardrobe in the spare room in my flat). Have to say, they look impressive (lightproof, vent holes etc) would you recommend them? Can you fit 2 plants in that small one? & what odour control measures have you used (can you put a carbon filter on them?)
I'm sorry about all the questions! I'll give you some rep as you've been really helpful

I like the Secret Jardins, I have two. For odor control I bought a cheap little electric Hamilton Beach hepa filter. They quit making them, so I'll have to make my own replacement filters, but it is just a little box with carbon filters on 3 sides. There are other, and better similar options.

I'm happy to help you if I can, but I make no claims of being an expert. Good luck.

edit: Regarding 2 plants:

Depends on the plants. You might be able to grow 4 in a sog with square pots if you grew bonsais, or something like Belladonna, or Big Buddha auto.

a friend got a 600 watt chinese led lamp through alibaba, paid 700 he said, the thing is so bloody bright and awesome, we shine it at a white wall and it hurts just to look at the reflection off the wall. construction seems super solid, i was very surprised...

f'd up thing, after it's on for a minute it starts stinking like a hot glue gun! he has another better lamp on the way, offered me to use his for a bit, man i do not want to deal with it or that glue gun smell, the smell worries me and makes me think of off gassing, that's the last thing i need...the thing that sucks is that it is expensive and lame to ship it back to china, wait for them to fix it, then ship it back

after seeing this happen to him, it makes me want to avoid any lamps straight out of china, although it seemed like a good deal having to send it back and whatnot just kills the deal imho

if he was going to drop that kind of cash, i wish he went with haight or lumigrow or something not so far away to deal with

now to me, i'm looking at lamps, man i have no idea, it's coming down to haight or lumigrow or kessil, but i am so opposed to kessil until they announce their new product, i'd feel like an ass to drop 250 on a kessil or 500 for 2 and then their new product is twice as good but only 350 each or something

According to a Kessil rep I corresponded with, the new white light model isn't having quite the success of their current line, in test grows.

it's white? that's what the "spectral halo" product is? ...i was hoping for a 84 led array upgrade from the 21 or something along the lines of an upgrade, oh well haha

I've checked and checked and checked man i cannot find your veg/clone 240w panel ALL the 240w panels that are blackstar are for FLOWER or at least that is what it says on their ebay sight and the lighthouse website. Now, i have the 2011 6 band flowering model. Absolutely no problem for veg at ALL, although i dont know about it throwing them into flower early still have not left things in veg long enough to test that theory. The point i am trying to make is what is the difference or please provide a link to your clone/veg panel i want to see the differences between mine. What model year is your panel? 2010? 2011? Flowering panel is kickin ass for any stage.

Good question Kush. I have an existing 300w mainly red spectrum LED and wanted to add LED lights that would allow me to grow from seed to flower. The vegg model replaces the blue and some of the red LEDs with 6 and 12 K diodes. I am banking that this combo of panels has plenty of red to keep my ladies happy in flower.

Last grow I went with the same area covered by the same 300W LED and 400W of T5s. Used half 6000k and half 3000k tubes. Was an excellent grow. This seems like a logical next step to me. Also I think the blue spectra helps produce denser buds.

Now that I have avoided your question. LOL. I would get the flowering panel if that were it's sole purpose. One can certainly make a strong argument for T5s in vegg and the flowering panel after flip.

My next step depending on how this grow goes will be replacing the 300W panel with more efficient LEDs like the next generation of lighthouse or Kessils. Always experimenting

We may be talking the same panel. It was not sold with a specific label to me but is clearly different than the 2010 flowering model. Specs are below

5,000k white 10pcs 60 degreees and 30 pcs 120 degrees
12,000k white 2 pcs 60 deg and 5 pcs 120 deg
630nm 6 pcs 60 deg and 22 pcs 120 deg
660nm 1 pc 60 deg and 2 pcs 120 deg
380nm 1 pc 60 deg
730nm 1 pc 60 deg

i dont have the 2010 model and i dont want your specs that you typed or copy pasted i want a link man a legit link. I have a 2011 6 band 240w blackstar flowering panel. Which is WAY different than the 2010 flowering panels which were only tri band.

As is typical with panels from Gotham mine came with no specifications. That is not a complaint as I got what I asked for(I think).

The Specs were emailed to me when I requested them from Victor. Contact Gotham to get the specs on your panel. Will be curious to see them if you care to share.

Just checked ebay. The 2011 flowering panel is listed. The exact specs are not listed but it looks like almost all the 6 and 12k diodes are 630 or 660. The print says that at least some 12 and 6 K diodes are present but they are minimal as I recall in a discussion with Victor. Hope that helps until you get exact specs.
