Cold Nights and Heating

Hi RIU Peeps,

Seems like I have been stressing out my ladies for the past few weeks. During the holidays, I was unable to get to the room on time a in couple different instances and they suffered a little heat stress, fully recovered.

THis time, I switched to a 20/4 light cycle and during lights out it got in the 40's, maybe cooler with the fans blowing. Well, the ladies got stressed out. My question is what do you recommend to heat this place during lights out? I have a 1ft wide walk space all the way around the tables. I would like to keep intake/exhaust on and the oscillating fan on. Temps, lights on is 80F under (4) 750w MH air-cooled lights. Currently in veg but going into flowering soon, under (4) 1000w hps. Room is 8x8x8 mylar walls, flood and drain tables.

you should install a space heater or maybe even a baseboard heater that has to be hard wired, and can be put on a timer.... how many plants in that space?

you can try running the lights during the night, and having your dark period during the day when it's a bit warmer.

I will be looking into heaters today, there are 40, its a bit congested in there. The flowering room will be two more feet in length and one in width.

Yeah, I have thought about that too. But during flowering, you wouldnt be able to get in there all day long.

Just curious, how are you powering those 4k watts? Are they wired for 220? Do you have them on dedicated circuits?

My lights come on from 5pm to 5am..

During the past 4 weeks in veg, they have been under (4) 600w MH. Just did a little bending (things are close to 3ft now, Presidential OG) and turned up to 750w for one more week. Next week going under the (4) 1000w hps for flowering. Each room has their own dedicated 220 circuit. Hydro, using rockwool. 5pm is a little too late for me. Probably look into a heater.

Fully insulated, just a little cold spell we are in right now. Intake is blowing cold air in the room, shutting intake and exhaust may help? Or just intake? Maybe heater?

shut the intake and see how it helps... if you want to save money on heating, i would run another 220 circuit for a heater....

Why the hell would 220 save money? To those that still have this notion that 220 will cost you have as much on the power bill, this is simply not the case. You are billed for Kilowatt hours (KWH) ergo you get billed for every thousand watt/hour you use. Volts x amps = watts. A 600 watt light uses 600 watts of power when you turn it on, no matter if its 110, 220 or whatever. For every hour you use it, you use .6 KWH.

Anyways, you are going to need some kind of heater for sure. Cold nights are not good for the plant, cause humidity levels to soar, and worst of all, makes the plants stretch. I "heat" my floe room with the exhaust from a veg tent right next store. Does a pretty good job and I don't have to run a heater.

Thats a good idea, so I should just keep the veg room on 24/7 and vent the exhaust to the flowering...How do you keep the exhaust out during lights on? Does this also put more CO2 into the flowering room?

I don't run 24/7 veg as I'm not a fan of it. I'm actually 16/8..mostly to maximize root growth but also due to the timing of my cycles, I don't want the plants to grow to fast. My veg tent is 4 x 7 and I'm running a 600 watter in there in an uncooled hood. I have two hydrofarm booster fans pushing and puling a 10" and an 8". I run the fans all the time as when the flowering lights are off they are heating the veg tent and vice-versa. It is a great set-up but does cause me to use more co2.

I hear this untruth all the time on this forum. It's only a matter of time before somebody has a story about an electrical fire.

If you can live without exhausting the flower room during lights out I would add a small heater w/ a thermostat. Cause it would suck to try to heat the room and at the same time exhaust heat that you just bought.

I have one of those radiating heaters. It heats my 10 x 10 bedroom to the point where I throw off the blankets. I recommend them.

thought i would add I do not have this exact heater. Mine is a 1500W heater and has a built in thermostat. Easily keeps my room at 75 degrees when its below freezing outside. You probably need some similar wattage. You can find them at the local homelowesdepot.

if temps are in the 73-75 range with lights on and 58-60 with the lights off: is that too much of a temp fluctuation ???

i wish the temps at lights off could be closer to 65-70 ...

have your lights running through the night.....why do u need to go in there in the day ?...im sure your advanced enough to no this would fix your issue......nice pics tho ..lookin healthy =)

Get a Vornado. Thermostat controlled.

They do the job.

I exhaust both Labs for 10 minutes every hour, helps to keep the heat in.
