How To Achieve High Yield (MINUS co2) ???

i have been through three crops since i became medical in April of 2010. i have had issues with lighting in my environment which caused my first two crops to hermaphrodite. my third crop turned out better, however, i feel that it was picked to pre-mature. ((When you chop off a test bud, does that automatically send the rest of the plant into turning orange??)) because my hairs where about 70-90% orange. when dried+cured the buds looked super premature, and were very skimpy. strain was sensi star. not sure if i picked it pre-mature, or if that is a low yield plant. any who.. any tips on flowering times, achieving high yields, or good flowering nutrient additives??? I'm a newbie so don't take this as gospel but the first thing to look at when looking for a higher yield is strain I think. Critical Mass and big bud are know for high yields.

Noob again genetics like tweekjones said and get enough light on it. MH for veg and hps for flower. Use good nutes, when i start my grow am going to be using Adanced Nutrients its expensive but have heard alot of good reviews on RIU. Add Co2 if the room is sealed. Longer veg time and put in bigger pots for bigger roots which means it can hold more bud. That's all i can think off cause am tired as f*ck other then topping, using hydro/aeroponics etc but thats for more experienced growers which I am not. Knowledge = Power so do your research!

Get yourself a good line of organic nutrients, make sure you get a nice reflector for your HPS lamp, and a good ballast. If you have the cash, upgrade to a Hortilux or other type of Enhanced spectrum HPS bulb, its worth it in the long run. Get larger pots for larger roots, try topping your plants for many big branches, be sure not to overwater or underwater, dont light-burn your plants, add good weight increasers and bud hardeners near the end of flowering. As for harvesting, cut when at least 90% of the hairs are Dark red/orange, and get at least a 20x scope/loupe to look at the trichomes. You'll want to cut when theyre sort of amber colored...not clear.

I dont know what more i can say....thats my general advice for growing anything indoors.

make sure you can do everything for your plant as possible and be precise, take notes and ask questions and with the right lighting, the yields will take care of themselves.

One thing i'm going to do that you might consider as well is LST. Not only will it give me a lot more room to flower it will also allow me to veg a lot longer which should mean higher yields. The fact that this type of training also gives better light penetration and therefore theoretically better yields is icing on the cake. SOG and SCROG will also increase yields.

high yield isnt accomplished by a certain strain only...there are many other things to tacke into account...

lighting: this is one of (if not THEE) most important part to growin indoors...cfls run cool and are cheap to run however they are not a decent option for a high yield...its more for growing in a small space/on a budget. HID ligting is the best option. mh for veg...hps for flower...if you cant get both either a mh or hps will do just fine on its own for both veg AND flower. veg: 18hrs on/6 hrs off or better...flower: 12/12.

Soil: (if you use soil)...fox farm ocean forest is expensive but works well...Extremely popular with soil growers. its all ive used up until recently i bought back gold soil...is certified as organic and is a bit cheaper than the ocean forest. both work very well. avoid using dirt from outside as you cant be sure of what its made up of, if it contains bugs, etc.

nutes: fox farm trio of nutes (big bloom, grow big, tiger bloom) is a very simple 3-part nute system. fox farm has a feeding chart on their webpage to make things very simple for you.

watering: dont under/over water. best way of doing this (or at least its what i do) is water twice per week. once WITH nutes...once WITHOUT. i try to water 1:1 soil to water. i space out my waterings as far apart as possible (every 3-4 days basically). dont let the soil dry out completely however dont keep it wet. you can also water by feel...once you get a pot full of dry soil, lift it...get a feel for how heavy it is...then do your watering...now lift it again...feel the difference in weight and use this as a marker to figure how wet/dry it is. also you can feel a few inches under the surface of the soil to see how wet it is.

theres also a ton of other basic things to look into that i wont go into as im not writing a book.


heres some cool techniques that are REALLY simple to do and reward you with higher yields:
supercrop (wait until at least 2 weeks into veg before attempting this).

super cropping is a simple technique that will improve your yield. basically take a branch between your fingers...squeeze and gently roll the branch between your index and thumb until you feel/hear a snap/tear in the branch...let it go...it should look limp and sad...within 1-2 days it will either be healed or appear to start healing...pinched branches will pop back up so dont worry. a knot will form where you bend/damaged the inside of the branch...new branches will form above the pinch. ONLY do this in veg...in flower it will not recover. this technique can be done to ANY plant...sativa, indica, etc. doesnt matter.

topping: very easy to do also...you simply cut the very top off of the main stem....there are several guides on here that explain where to cut in detail...by cutting off the very top, two new ones will grow in its place...now you'll have two main colas instead of one. some plants do not respond well to topping...however most dont have an issue with it at all.

LST is another one that can boost yield.

i dont use co2...i lst, super crop, and top...last grow i harvested 5 plants in 5 gallon pots with a total yield of 336 grams dried and cured. pretty good for no co2 if you ask me considering the grow before (with 1 extra plant in a 5gallon pot!) i only yielded 230g. to i got 100 more grams from one less plant.

longer veg is also important to bigger yields...keep in mind i only vegged 29 days last grow...

sensi star is a sativa if i remember correctly and takes a long flower time. You should never go by pistil color, always go by trichs
