I wanted to know if it is ok to switch to a HPS during veg/light cycle, i would let the bulb cool down and then put the HPS in and wial doing this leave the plants in the sun for no more then 40mins, is this a bad idea?

what light are you using right now ?... MH or CFL ?

It will not be a problem to change the light ... But you will have to keep in mind that you will need to maybe pull it upp high and away from the plants in order for them to get used to it ( Harden off )... But i suppose it depends on how old your plants are ?

Also keep in mind that your room ( grow space ) temps will shoot up with a HPS ...so you might need to check your temps for a few days to make sure its right for the plants :)

Should be fine with a bit of common sense :)

Good Luck :)

i dont really understand whats your concern is though... what do you think will happen?
if its the 45 min without lights, you got nothing to worry about. my timer fucks me over and over and over with the light cycle and nothing bad has happened yet

are you just starting to flower? cuz if you are I would keep the MH in there for a couple of weeks through the stretch. Switch to HPS when you get some buds, and switch back to MH for the final week or two of budding. MH gives off more UV than HPS, and helps to crust the shit out of the buds with trichromes. Seeing as how the stretch is mainly a vegetative process leading up to budding, it would be beneficial (IMHO) to leave the MH in for a bit longer under 12/12, as it will best suit the photosynthetic process needed to store up energy for bud production. The HPS will tighten up the buds, thats about it.

im not going into budding till the 14th, i just want to switch to HPS to get the plants use to it, and to promote more stretch.

I would totally agree with the above , Stick with the MH for now... flip to 12 / 12 on the 14th ... let the stretch happen under the MH and then after two weeks or so you can drop the HPS in .... Some people drop the MH back in for the last two weeks of flower period for some positive stress :)

Stretching grows stem, leaves grow bud. Don't stretch without giving optimal leave producing conditions. I don't even switch to flower nutes until 3 weeks into 12/12, stretching takes a lot of N to build all that vegetation. Once your bud sites are well established and the stretching slows, hit it with the HPS. Those beautiful fan leaves you will have so intelligently fostered during the stretch will end up pumping tons of energy into your bud production that otherwise would not have been there before.

ok well thanks for the advice i was under the impression that HPS = tall and MH = bushy, but my plants are about 2f side ways and only 1f tall so i was just trying to promote some length is all..... and just a ball park guess but from a 2f master kush "nirvana" plant under a 400w how much bud can i be looking at

Hard to tell until about about a month of 12/12. Still hard to tell after that.

lot of fuck assing around, u could damage plants carrying in and out ,u could damage bulb all that handling, restarting ballast costs lot of power,Just veg under mh and flower under hps ,be a lot easier.
