Recommended Plant to light distance

I'm running a 600w HPS light in a 4' x 3' foot enclosed & ventilated setup. What's the recommended distance from the light to the top of the plants? I know they can resist some heat but don't want to burn the tops.

Not sure for a 600 but I run a 250 and I have read that it should be 8-12" away. I keep it at 10"

depending on your reflector as follows............... vertical (umbrella hood) 1 foot - 600w
horizontal 1.5ft 600w
this is bang on ...good luck

easiest guage is your hand, if it is too hot & uncomfortable to hold your hand under the light, at the distance it is away from the tops of your ladies, then it is too hot or uncomfortable for them.

When I ran a 600, I kept it around 12". BUT, if you air cool your reflector or put fans blowing on the canopy, they can take a bit more.
