Lumatek 600W Ballast little question?

So onto my 3rd grow now and I'd like to use this 600W HPS bulb my friend got me. (Wants some of my harvest in return)

Both of us didn't know it needed a ballast until I did some quick research.
Fortunately I haven't even gotten my seeds yet so I have time.

I'm looking at the Lumatek 600W 120/240v HPS/MH E-Ballast

This looks pretty good to me, my question is "
Completely pre-wired with popular BAREF lamp cord"
I assume this means it goes from the ballast to bare wires, does that mean I can take one of the sockets I had a CFL in, unscrew the bare wires off of that and screw on the ballast's wires and put my HPS into that?

I'm going to use the HPS for flowering but not for a while so I have time to pick and choose.
Thanks everyone even just for looking <3

PS: I'm actually kind of expecting a "Yeah if you wanna burn down the whole neighborhood" answer. :)

The ballast will come pre-wired to fit most lamp sockets. Lumatek includes an adapter with their ballasts to adapt to different lamp manufacturers. For example, a Lumatek ballast and a Sunlight Supply lamp fixture will require an adapter because the two manufacturers use different sockets. Not unlike trying to plug a European hair dryer into a US power outlet.

Going only by the info in your post, you need to purchase a mogul socket lamp.

Not to hijack but why do you think that exactly? I have been using them for about a year now and have had no problems at all.

Nah it's cool, perfectly good question to add.
Haven't ordered yet but I think the dimming thing on the quantum looks a bit better?

It is better.....as far as i know lumatec dosent make there ballast aircooled(quantum does) also i they only provide limited RFI plating not full protection like other brands.......also they have alot higher return rate...... however This is old info i dont know if the new lumatecs are now being made with there own aircooling and im not sure if they have added extra RFI plating aswell...i just know that they didnt before and they charge as much as the brands that do.......They where the first digi brand out and are known for using there old tech. even though they have the means to use better new tech in there products......kinda like if its not broke dont fix it , but in there case its " if its still selling dont upgrade it" this IMO i dont work at lumatec im just going off of everyting ive heard about them and some of my friends have them too... based of price and what ive heard and the fact that i love my quantum ....ill never get a lumatec just the way it is i guess im bias really

I am running nine Lumatek 600 watt ballasts with HydroFarm hoods and regardless of public perception, these things are rock solid. Silent with minimal heat. The only issue I've had is prematruely blowing bulbs while switched in the "Super Lumens" mode, which could, and I am not totally sure, be pushing more wattage than 600W bulbs can handle. But I've only blown three bulbs in the three grows I've done with the Lumateks.

I order the ballast/hood/bulb combo and everything comes ready to plug and play. I'm not sure how if it would connect to other brand sockets/hoods.

I have 6 Lumatek 600 watt ballasts with Lumatek High par bulbs and they are great. Run almost totally silent and nice and cool (mine are not mounted in the grow room but rather a 55-60 degree room). I keep mine in 600 watt mode not super lumen mode so can't comment on that. Only reason I don't use super lumens is because I can't see how it could be good for a 600 watt bulb to be pushed 10% harder.

As for the Lumatek bulbs...can't say if they are better or worse than any other but they are rated at 92,000 lumens where Hortilux is rated at 88,000

Thats less then 9%. 27 bulbs over 3 grows. Could be the bulbs right?

My thing is, do you ever hear people come on here and say they wired their lumateks wrong? or got the wrong bulbs? Nah, its always, "My ballast broke"
