Plans for First Grow

This is going to be my first grow and I want to bounce my ideas off you.

I scouted out a nice location in the woods with at a 20ft opening and southern exposure. I am on the east coast and the soil sucks so i want to use Fox Farm Ocean Forest. Then for the nutes i want to keep it organic with Iguana juice Grow and Iguana Juice Bloom. Will this get me through harvest?

I want to make a 5 gallon hole for each of the plants and I didn't want to put the FFOF directly in the hole instead I'm still looking for grow bags in local stores, if not i'll order them online. Any good brands of grow bags?(I hear smart pots help the roots grow better)

Also I thought it would be a good Idea to dig a big square hole, in an offset but still pretty close location, in the woods. Then buy a cooler and a water jug and but them in that hole and cover with brush. I could put the nutes and other supplies in the cooler and fill up the jug with water for easy access.

Finally i plan to LST all my plants. I;m ordering Greenhouse Sativa/Indica Mix C and Lowryder Easyryder, and I have 2 bag-seed that i want to start in early April so I can sex them and pull them if they are male, before the feminized seeds come into play.

Any input/advice is greatly appreciated. Can't wait to be smoking bud that I grew on my own.

if you arent planning on moving your plants from their location i would use burlap bags or smartpots. burlap is gonna be way cheaper and burlap will act as a water wick. you can also bury the burlap and the plants roots can grow through the bag if need be. consider mixing your own soil and spend your money on better things than ffof. ffof is good soil but its expensive and not really necessary. i use a 50/50 mix of peat moss and compost with added lime. then i just add fertilizer to the mix while im mixing or just use liquid as your planning on. this mix works great and its cheap to make. i can make 5-6 cubic feet for the $ of 1 bag of ffof. i pre-mix my soil, fill each burlap bag with 1 cubic foot of soil, hual them to my spot, ( i hual mine in the fall ) dig your hole and drop the bag in the hole. then when your plants are ready to come outside you just cut the top of the bag off and transplant.

i mix my 50/50 compost peat mix the same way i do in the thread with a 3qt bowl and add 1cup of lime per cubic foot. you can add dry fertilizer or plant starter per manufacturer directions and you have a homemade garden soil for a fraction of the cost. you could use one of the fertilizer options on the thread or just add liquid like your planning on.

thanks for the reply, but i want to keep it simple since it is my first grow so i just want to buy the soil. What about a 80/20 Light warrior/FFOF mix because i just read up that straight FFOF can burn seedlings and how big ft wide x ft deep should i dig the hole to fit 5 gallons of soil.

80/20 would be fine. if you start your seedlings/ cuttings in light warrior and grow them out until a good rootball is developed, you can just use 100% ffof no problem. when i used fox farms thats what i did and never had any problems. for the size of the hole not sure. i always just eyeball to the size of my burlap bags. you could always just take a 5 gallon bucket in with you and try to mimic the size of the bucket.

I would recommend not going with easy ryder, as its not much of a potent strain. I grew diesel ryder, which has easy ryder in its genetics. I never got to smoke it, but the plants didn't look as good as my dinafem fruit automatic. I think there are better strains. And I wouldn't worry about FFOF burning your seedlings, I planted seeds directly into 90/10 (FFOF/perlite) and they thrived on it. But hillbillybobb is right, that shit is expensive!

Personally I would plant close to a fresh water source so u don't have to fill a resivior. And 20 ft Opening in the tree canopy? that's not too big. You want the morning sun on your plants for outdoors to prevent bud rott in the fall.The Morning sun will evaporite the morning dew quickly and help with that. you should go to your spot and see where on the ground the sun hits threw the canpoy at whatever time of day , and adjust your sunlight buy cutting down more trees. Southern Exposure is good Southern slopes get the most sunlight.

Well there is a river next to my spot but when i checked it out it was dried up, i don't know if thats just because its winter or if its like that all year. Second I got quotes for my soil and its over $200. no way i'm spending that much on just soil. I'm trying to see if my shop can order me some Roots Organics soil(the ones in the snazzy camo bags) Its much cheaper, but is this a good soil mix?
That spot is the biggest opening in the woods! Wouldn't cutting down trees attract attention to the spot?

not sure if i would do that. the plants roots will never reach beyond the bucket and you will likely have problems with moisture, too much or too little.

thanks for the response but i'm already set on my strains. Anyone use Advanced Nutrients Mother Earth Organic Tea Grow/Bloom. Can I add this to the Iguana Juice Grow/bloom? I also decided on Roots Organics soil, and i just want to plant them in the bag(Should i dig holes,its ready to grow in the bag?)

How much of the nutes should I get? Each plant is going to be in one Roots organics bag so ~10gallons of soil per plant.

if you have more than 5 hours of directly light you must leave a distante of 3 meters between them. try to user organic nutrients, will taste better, when you dry it, dry it in a climate that is changing temperature all over the day well ventilated and as darker as possible. in this way the stash will eliminate all the chlorofile and it will a very pleasant smoke.

if you can get roots cheaper than ffof do it by all means. roots is great. and yes cutting down trees would attract more attention from overhead. if your in a remote area where there isnt much going on than maybe, but if your even close to a major county or city i would forget it.

I know this thread is in a coma, but I dont think that top soil has much nutrients, drainage, or beneficial critters. You'd have to mix it all in

I went to the spot and there is a small flowing river nearby. Would this water be good for watering my plants?

After looking at the spot on Bing Maps it looks like it is a wetland area that the river flows into, but when i went there yesterday it was solid ground. Would I still be able to grow here if it becomes wet in the spring?

I totaled up my prices for nutes and I don't like how much i am spending. What is a good organic nutrient that could replace iguana grow/bloom?

-Well i can't tell u that the waters alright to maintain healthy plants, but if it looks and tastes fine and has a pH of 5.5-7 (if you can test it) i wouldnt hesitate. Easier then lugging gallons upon gallons of water to ur plot. But also if your plot is near a wetland or river deposit, then in the spring the soil would more than likely be flooded bro. Try looking for a open spot on a slope facing NORTH or SOUTH. So that it has direct sunlight for at least 5 hours. And about Iguana Juice, it is a base nutrient which means without it or any base nutrient your plants cannot benefit as well off other added nutrients. Its like eating cereal with no milk or spoon. And i am not aware of any other base nutrients by heart.
