i relly dig the leds.
That's bullshit.Any body touting the benefits of low heat signature is an LED salesman.

No prob amigo....I can't figure out how the search engine works on here either. Seems to be pretty hit and miss.Hey dunit,
Can you post a link to this thread where Hudsonvalley82 shows these pics and reviews the quality of Blackstar's internal components. I've searched all around RIU and every post made by Hudsonvalley82 but couldn't locate these pictures. Thanks a lot!
I think the Blackstar is a cheap LED panel and won't perform up to the benchmark set by the ISIS in this grow. Props to LedBudGuy for providing me with the information to figure that out. Thanks to HudsonValley for pulling a Blackstar apart and taking pics to show it didn't have a real heat sink. LED's loose luminous efficiency as their core temp increases which is why the heat sink is important to get the most out of your lights. That being said I'm not hating on Blackstar. If you've only got $250 then buying an ISIS isn't an option and if you wanna grow you better grab a blackstar. I guarantee it will grow buds. I also think that if you wanna grow tall plants then the Blackstar definatley won't get the penetration because it has 120 degree lens angles (and I'm pretty sure 2W LED's but that's just speculation until HudsonValley can post some pics of his running with an ammeter clamped on), the ISIS will be better but I don't think will meet my specifications which is why I picked up the 357 Magnum. It's over twice the cost of a Blackstar but I have different requirements. When I have to pull my camping trailer I don't hook up to my Hyundai, but if I didn't buy the Hyundai first I wouldn't have made it to work to make the money to buy the truck and trailer so it all has value
Grams per Watt is an important benchmark. Grams per Dollar spent is important too.....and it's time to put up or shut up I'm gonna give it my best shot with my 357's and maybe someone wants to fire up a Blackstar grow? I've grown with Procyon in the past and they did okay grams per watt but their cost was ridiculous, probably up there with Stealth Grow. I hate repeating mistakes but I didn't document my Procyon grow on a forum so maybe I'll have to run another one cause talk is cheap. I'd love to pick up a Stealth Grow panel and run it against my 357 but I'd have to sell the trailer and maybe one of the kids to buy one
I wonder what an ISIS looks like inside?Originally Posted by dunit

I've got an ISIS that I use for my little guys and I can absolutely tell you it has a heat sink. I will post some pics later on when I have a minute to pull the cover off. As for giving Blackstar a bad rep.....that's not the intent......what I suggested is that they are a product that will work and is cheap. I think they are about the only LED light at that price point. I really wouldn't expect a product that is 30% cheaper to perform the same. Possibly the only question is bang for the buck and is it worth the extra money to make the step up. LedBudGuy has certainly set the bar pretty high with his ISIS grow at .9g per watt on a first run with LED's and bad clones but if it wasn't for competition we'd never improve so let's get growing and see who can kick his ass
No disrespect LedBudGuy, just having fun.....appreciate the journal and the info and hope to send some back.
Never in doubt. I wonder how much it extends the life of the light? There is definitely a heat sink in my ISIS-1's as you can clearly see in this pic...

850 watt LED uses the exact same amount of power as a 850 watt HPS ( if there were such a thing). You don't need to worry about infrared signature output unless you are running 10,000 watts + of HID, a couple thousand watters won't show much, besides cops in USA cannot use thermal imaging equipment without a warrant. Perhaps those folks in the UK might need to worry. Far as equipment life goes, the only thing you need to replace on a HID system is the bulbs. Power supplies in LED systems are as prone to breaking down as much as a Ballast is.Not when you factor in the expense of dealing with heat, electricity used, infrared signature concealment, equipment life, etc. There are good LED lights for <$300 that will grow a nice closet full of good bud.
