Who's genetics to choose from??? So many breeders!

It produces alot of fine nugs. All their strains I've grown have been good producers.
"Romulan was created by a guy named Romulan Joe once known as Mendocino Joe who was one of the founders of the Trinity grow scene. Romulan is a mostly afghani hybrid not related to Sk#1. It is very popular with the marijuana medical scene because of it's potency for treating chronic pain. There are a few banks that carry the strain and it's hybrids. Federation had the original clone, and 97% pure seed form. Next Generation has many of Federation's strains including Romulan. Reeferman has Romulan and it's hybrids. Marc Emery used to have a Romulan x White Widow cross that was very popular. I have seen pics of this Rom/WW hybrid, and they are truly amazing with almost purple look, super thick buds, and with crystals all over the entire plant! Another hybrids that was popular was Romberry (Romulan x BlueBerry)with it's exotic taste and awesome purple colors! Subcool seeds has a C99 x Romulan cross called Space Queen.

In the old days whenever someone mentioned Romulan, the talk of California Blue Indicas comes up. I am not sure what Blue Indica means, but they get mentioned. I know Romulan is mostly of Afghan origin, but I would like to know what the other genetics of the plant are. Maybe there is a little Paki/Hindu Kush or Lebanese hashplant mixed in. General concensus says that it is not entirely Afghan, and that it has more sativa in it than a landrace Afghan or Hindu Kush. I am thinking that it is slightly under 15%-10% sativa. Since it has a lot of purple coloring, it may have a little Colombian Green, Red, or Black in it. There is talk of it maybe having a very little amount of mexican genetics in it as well, maybe Oaxacan. People tried to grow these late flowering equatorial sativas outdoors up north with little sucess until Afghan seeds arrived. That's my specualtion. It may have a little haze crossed in, but I think that Northern Lights has the claim on the multiple Afghan x (Afghan x Haze) cross.

Federation acquired a strain from Romulan Joe (A Vietnam Vet/East Bay Biker) from California and grew it on Vancouver island. It was given to them in clone form. I guess that Federation crossed it with White Rhino to get seeds. They backcrossed it 11 times backwards to the original clone. They favored backcrossed plants that were the largest & most robust while still finishing within 8 weeks flowering time. Federation's seeds are 97% like the orig clone. Now it has been inbred ever since, and it is good breeding material to cross other plants with.

The overall structure of the plant is short and stocky. They said it can get a very branchy compared to other afghan/indicas, and it isn't the best choice for SOG. The color of the buds and leaves are very dark green with a thick structure. Leaves are wide. The stems on the plant turn purple. I'd imagine that maybe other parts of plant will start to turn purp near the end of harvest time. The plant is pretty frosted in that some stems have crystals on them. The yields mentioned are 30g-60g per plant indoors, up to 250g outside. Since it is almost all indica and an IBL, it doesn't have hybrid vigor and the sativa stretch in flowering that other strains tend to have. I have seen growers get a little more yields out of the plant. Federation says Rom can foster mold near harvest time if you are in a humid environment.

Federation claims Romulan as it's strongest strain potency wise. It was nicknamed Romulan because "the high can put a dent in your head". Most people claim that the high is a little more clearer thinking than most indicas, but still strong enough to Kick Your Ass. The smells are pretty strong ranging from a pungent piney to an acrid fruity/pepper smell.

i havent grown many strains but only had bad experience with dutch passion seeds have seen there blueberry, bluemoonshine and purple1 go hermi with minimal grower errors, if you research your find many that have had hermi problems with DP.

seen a few serious seed strains and only good things to say about them, the chronic was nice and the bubblegum very nice lol needed a good cure tho but both especially the bubblegum are very strong weed.

I have used Nirvava Gens Greenhouse and now Barny's. I like the Nirvana. But so far green house has been the best and seem to be on par with Barny. The factors I looked at was tric production gem rate and male or hermis in fem seeds. So far I have not had a male or hermy from green house or Barnys I have had 2 from Nirvana. All the seeds I have germed from Greenhouse and Barnys have created a nice strong plant. Nirvana I have had a 3 not Germ.

They have so far all produced nice high quility buds. Nirvana sell its seeds for less.

I have grown

White Widow Nirvana
White Castle Nirvana
Super Lemon Haze Green house
Vanilla Kush Barny's

Serious Seeds has legendary strains like Kali Mist and Ak47 and when other breeders rip off their genetics, that tells you something.

Yeah. I'm growing it again as I flowered my mother before I moved. I'm growing dynamite now and it's a killer strain. I've been super satisfied with their strains. Next gen used to be federation and have top notch strains.
well kinda but the strains are not the same. I hear NextGen uses different strains in the backcrosses. Would love to hear about your Dynamite and romulan and see some pics. I a growing both but from federation seed stock.

To the OP, I think dutch passion doesnt have as good a reputation as they used to. I haven't personally grown them so I can't say. I do remember ordering the catalogues back in the day too and DP was one I wanted to try but poor reviews have left me looking elsewhere. I'd say for skunk go with flying dutchman's the pure, for haze maybe try Mr. Nice seedbank. I have heard that Ace and Tom Hill have very good sativa lines. Seedsman might have some good haze (been wanting to try their thai) or homegrown fantaseeds might be worth a go. A lot of selection I know but that's more than 1/2 the fun IMO.

I've also seen Dutch Passion come up a few times in this thread and my buddy is currently growing two of their fems; Oasis and Strawberry cough. The oasis hemies pretty bad and the strawberry cough was total garbage (maybe he germed the only bad seed out of the 5 pack?). After seeing his results, I'd never order from DP.

Geez, guess Dutch Passion is out then, too many bad reports at this point. Seems like Nirvana, Serious, and Greenhouse are the most praised so far. And Dr.Greenthumb.

Nah greenhouse is pretty well hated by many. If you want the original greenhouse strains like white widow and white rhino go to Mr Nice. Shit is Mr Nices skunk and they have hazes too. From what I understand Nirvanas strains are all knockoffs of other breeder's seeds as are greenhouse's, but if money is a concern may be decent bargain.

i have read too many posts like this to ever order from Dutch Passion. It seems to me that the negative posts about DP outnumber the positive posts about 3 to 1... those aren't very good odds. I constantly hear that they have hermi probs!

I've been growing a while and have grown out seeds from loads of different breeders and these CC beans are the best I've had in my grow room yet!! Check out my journal link in my sig for all the grow info and to see the other strains I've currently got in my flower room, I've got OG#18xSkunk & SleeSkunk from DNA both dank BTW and I've just put 4 CheeseQuake from TGA in as well.

How about good old Sensi Seeds? Are they keeping people happy? I remember them being one of the first from 20 years ago, yet I don't hear them mentioned around here a lot?

I got 2 hermies from 2 fem Jack Flash beans I popped a while back so I wont say their fem seeds are any good, but their Jack Herer is one strain that I've smoked many times and love it!! Not grown it personally yet but it's on my list, it's not cheap either for 10 reg's and there's 4 different main pheno's to be found in JH too.
