first water farm setup

run the drip ring more often.....I use waterfarms....for clones i put the ring on a half hour on half hour off and for larger plants i run it 24/7....running the drip ring all the time helps to oxygenate and mix solution....don't worry about overwatering...waterfarms are essentialy DWC units so the roots will be living in h202 anyway....run the drip ring.
good luck

i decided to flip to 12/12 today instead of tomorrow. i changed the timer, so when the lights go out they will start the first 12 hours night, tonight. did a res change. i added 15ml cal-mag, 15ml karma, 15ml grow, and 20ml of bloom. then ph the water. will finish this journal in my sig journal.

Hey there Redrum.
I have ran those waterfarms before. They can get out of hand at about week 6 of flowering because the root ball will get so massive it will take up most of the volume of the rez. If this starts to happen install another hose fitting at the base of the bucket and connect another 5 gallon bucket with a ball valve between them. I suggest you do this anyway. It makes it a hell of a lot easiet to add and remove the nut soup. Plus make sure to blow air through the hose at the bottom of the bucket and then lean it down so you can get a fresh amount of the nutirients to test for PPM and PH. Because you might be adding Nuts at 900 PPM @ 5.5 PH while the nuts inside are at 7.0 PH and 1,600 PPM. If you get the rez all out of wack, drain it through the ball valave and hose I suggested, mix up a new batch in the second bucket, raise it and open the valve. Once you fill the rez to where you like it, let it sit for 3-4 hours then take a small amount out again and test it/ Always blow air through the hose to get a fresh mix of nuts in the hose. Hope I did not repeat to much that other people already said. Have to take off did not have time to read the whole thread.

Good Luck and happy growing. And good move on flipping to 12/12 now. Not a good idea to grow huge monsters in one of those. Unless you know what is going to happen. :)

thanks for the info. i just take the net pot out of the bucket and check the water ph and ppm level that way, much easier i think. the ph level doesnt change much. i adjust it once a day or two days. ive seen some monster plants in water farms on youtube, but i dont have the room to grow monsters right now indoors.

thats what i was thinking. my seeds should be here in less then a week. i may end up making 4 more water farms, and just fill my closet will them next grow. after i finish the soil ones.
You should keep some soil going too. I've had mixed results with exactly the setup you've built...awesome success and non-understandable failure. You can watch your soil grow or try to figure out why the hydro isn't, So do both!

DAM YOU REDRUM!!!!!! You made me blow red beer all over my monitor!!!!!! HAHAHAHA You have no idea what you are in for. One of these days you are going to try and lift that net pot out and snap off that basket ball sized root ball. AND I SHIT YOU NOT!!!!! You have a little pubic hair of a root there. When you start getting into later stage of flowering you are going to hit a wall, where your PPM and PH is going to go all wacko, and you are going to freak. Hopefully you remember what I have told you.

When I ran my waterfarms, I had to get up 30 minutes early for work just take care of it everyday, and then rush straight home. If not It would fry and go Poof. That thing holds about 3 gallons of Nuts. Once your root ball gets fully formed you will be lucky if it holds a gallon. And it will slurp that 1 gallon down twice a day. Maybe you are lucky and have a strain that is not very thirsty, But maybe you are not. I would not screw around, I would connect another 5 gallon bucket to it, or scrub the system. But that is me. These systems work well, but they HAVE to be upgraded. But do as you wish.

Let us know where to send flowers.

When I tried this i used another bucket with no plant in it as a resevior, so I had 4 gallons more than without it. I guess you could even use more than 1 resevior bucket if wanted. Still heed the warnings though...I have given up on the hydro not because I can't make it work but because it's too finicky and unreliable. Watch your soil grow and be happy. Hydro is not the 'high performance machine' that companies selling systems lead you to believe. Good luck either way! Oh yea, I've got a 1\4 garage full of buckets and pumps and tubes and connectors and heaters and and rubbermaid tubs and all other DIY hydro shit if anyone has any ideas what to do with it besides fill a landfill...
