a Saturday morning disaster.. well almost.

got up this morning to water/feed my plant(s). Keep in mind, I was more asleep than I was awake. I grabbed the bottle of Aquafina water (i use this for all my plants) and began walking to the grow area. Well, once I got into the grow area.. I noticed one of my ladies REALLY needed some attention as well as a nice watering.

So, I grabbed her by the bottom of the grow pot and took her into isolation. I recently bought a new computer desk a this past weekend.. and I'm still getting used to having a smaller unit (smaller than the old desk).

This desk has three tiers on it. Top, middle, and bottom. The top, I have my computer lamp, the middle tier holds my gigantic older model 'MAG' computer screen.. and then the last bottom tier is where I mounted both my boxes. I have two computer boxes, one that has WinXP on it and the other one (the better box) which has Ubuntu (Linux) on it.

Well, my dumbass sat the plant that I was carrying to isolation, down on top of the third tier (top tier). Still half ass asleep, I began to water her.. completely forgetting that I'm going to have some 'run-off' water come out the bottom drainage holes on the pot. Sure enough.. it started dropping water drops like no tomorrow.

Luckily enough for me, I have cat-like reflexes.. and after the first drop of water hit the top of my computer.. I immediately removed her from the top tier.. and put her in the bath tub so that I could come back and tend to my screen to see what damage if any, I had caused.

Sure enough, right when I walk back into the room.. my screen began looking like it was bleeding. It was kinda trippy looking even.. the graphics just began melting.. or so it looked.. I immediately hit the power button and unplugged the screen.. in hopes that it hadn't done too much damage yet.. and maybe it would dry out after an hour or so of being turned off.

Well, I went ahead and grabbed my hair dryer from the hall bathroom and began air drying the back of the screen.. blowing warm air through the air-vents on the back of the screen.. where the drop of water had entered.. in hopes to help dry things out.

After about 15 minutes of air drying with the hair dryer.. I turned the hair dryer off.. crossed my fingers and toes.. and eyes.. and hit the power button. It took the screen a little longer to power up for some reason.. but it did come on. In fact, everything was in great shape! I lucked out on this one.. I think just one more small drop of water.. would have completely destroyed my screen.

The only thing it did.. was reset my screen settings (not sure how that happened, but it did). So yeah, I lucked out this time. It was just one of those "idiotic" moments that we have all experienced.. rather you want to admit it or not.. we've all done stupid stunts like this one.

I learned something from it.. I learned that one, never EVER water your plants near electronics (common sense I know).. and two, NEVER EVER try to do something that requires your utmost attention.. when you have just woken up from a full nights sleep... not a good idea. I learned to give myself some time to wake up, before I even think of trying to do anything that requires brain power.. and attention. ;)

I'm almost certain that everyone on here.. knows better than to water plants near your electronics.. but if any of you have been doing this.. don't do it any more. It's not worth it.

Just thought I would share that with everyone this morning..

peace.

You need a shitload of rice that you can seal that monitor up in bag with. That way you can be sure all the moisture is gone. I know this sounds crazy but I'm serious, the hidden moisture will come back to haunt you!

Yikes....you don't think you could have boiled that down? Read and noted, thanks for the tips...but I guess it's irrelevant to me personally because I always pay attention. ;) And I don't water my plants with bottled Aquafina water...

(wtf?)

don't feel bad. around halloween i set a dry plant on top of my closed laptop just to get it out of the way. like an idiot i switched it with the one i had just watered and water ran all over the laptop. i, also having catlike reflexes, grab the pot and practically throw it on the floor. the computer was plugged in and charging so i unplugged at the box thing. i open the computer to access the power button to shut it off and it starts making all these fucked up noises and the screen had all these lines on it. long(er) story short i set it on it's side upright so the water could drain from the side it and a few days later it worked after a bit of struggle. only issue is if it's closed and sleeping, if i open it too quickly it shuts down and logs me out of this site if the window was open. weird but i can deal.
