Chapter 1: Send in the clones.
Hello everyone, this will be my first attempt to do an online journal of one of my grows so please bear with me.

The grow: I will be growing 5 Purple Kush plants in a ghetto cardboard box with the help of my friend likestosmokealot, I will be using CFL's throughout the grow, and I will be keeping everything organic. To start things off we will be using a fortified organic potting soil that is sold in my local area. (local brand) Currently there are close to 100 watts of cfl's in there mainly 6000 to 6500K light spectrum with one 8 watter at the 2700K spectrum to mix it up a bit So lets see some pics...

  • box1 006.jpgbox1 007.jpg And here we have the exhaust vent with my digital temp monitor, typically my vented air is about 3-5 degrees hotter than what it is in my box... need more thermometers.

  • box1 003.jpgbox1 004.jpgbox1 002.jpg Ok here we have a few shots of the purple kush clones they were taken out of their dome exactly 6 days ago 3 out of 5 clones had strong legs and they were all cloned in peat pellets.

  • box1 005.jpg Heres an interior shot showing the fan I use to blow across the plants and to cool the box.
  • box1 001.jpgAnd finally the box from the outside, I have many plans to stealth it up a bit more but thats as time comes, this is an extremely budget grow.
What ya'll think?

Hey, I have a similiar setup, but I have the fan as an output and then cut a small duct in one of the corners to get fresh air in. That way the fan kind of doubles up on usage. Also I remember reading something a while back that said direct wind on the plants isnt good, could cause wind burn? Clones looking good for 6 days out, hoping to do my first cloning soon. How old was the mother when you clipped them?

Great to seeya! And I am not familiar with plants getting windburn and I have aggressively ventilated like this before with no issues but we'll see how it goes. That and I rotate the plants daily so they only spend a day in direct front of the fan.

The mother is about a year old now not quite but close will be taking the last clone from her in a month or two and letting her flower for one big reason... her pot is friggin huge!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome and quick response. I didn't even realize you could keep a mother for that long.... that's crazy. So basically as long as you keep it on an 18/6 cycle its not going to flower? How big of a pot do you have the mother in? You have me wondering if I should get one bigger then my current 5 gallon.

My record for oldest mother is 2.5 years before her cankers got too bad to deal with. But yes basically as long as it thinks fall never comes it never goes into flower, but the older the mother the more chances for disease and such. She's in a 5 1/2 gallon and not too happy about it, before she flowers I am thinking of either getting a rubbermaid or taking her out back in the spring and planting her... dunno yet. But typical rule is gallon per foot of growth unless ya grow dense bushes with lst, then give yourself some more breathing room.

Welcome good to see you guys!

Yes I love this perticular PK... it came from a messed up bagseed and a friend challenged me to try to grow it and well... that was about a year ago I think she suffered a lot for the first 3 months but after that she became the most resilent plant of my whole crop. I wish I knew the breeder she came from, this variety of PK has handled heat stress especially like none of my other strains hence why they are in this tiny box.

Yes I will be topping twice then LSTing the suckers mainly cause my box is only 2.3 feet high :P but I hope to use this grow as example of what a tiny box can do.

Thanks for stopping in! So far the budget for this whole grow has been maybe 7 dollars, so for what I have spent to get stuff I didn't have lying around this isn't a bad project.

when you keep a mother that long does she get kinda hard to control?
would she be tooo big for a 2x3 closet?

My closet is 8 by 6 by 4 it has a bunch of plants in there too :P

She is honestly my most maintainence free plant, she is in a fortified organic soil so I don't have had to feed often since she's just a mother and her huge pot retains enough water for her for about 6 days.

That's awesome dude, I plan on making a mother out of whitewidow I got from nirvana, what kind of lighting do you keep on her? 18\6 light schedule?

Actually to slowly build up power usage until I have my other flower area ready everything in veg has been on 24 hours since last fall. Once I get the new flower area setup to balance the juice load will slowly go 18/6
