OVERKILL SIR!! no need for the CFL's unless your doing a nice long veg under the flower model blackstar. If not over a month your fine with no supplement. However overkill isnt always bad but it is more than you need for that. The 2 panels are MORE than enough they each cover a 2x3 area. Thats it.

I'm wondering this myself. I was thinking about grabing one veg and one flower 240 but I think I might just supplement with cfl's in both phases though. What do you guys think of a set of 4 autoflowers in 3 gal throughout to harvest. And another 4 ww in 4-5 gal all under 480w of led and between 150-300w cfl side lighting. I will grow only the autos for 3-4 weeks until they show sex and then flower them while I veg the ww so they get more available light. Once the ww is vegged for 4-6 weeks flip it all over to 12/12. Crop out the autos in 1-2 weeks and then dedicate all lighting to the ww in it's last 3-4 weeks. I'm wanting to grab about 10 zips so I think this is doable. Oh and all my new tent gear is in today except my exhaust fan. They are sending a free hyg/thermometer with it and since it shipped yesterday I might still get it this week!!!!! Can't wait to stuff that box with lights and turn off my heater lol.

for you i would run a 300w flowering model of blackstar or 240w flowering model in conjunction with 2 magenta kessils and that shit would be beast as hell.

im going to use LEDs fo sho!!!! . but just narrowing down to which i should use.... and how many. sooooooo should I.....

use 2 kessils or 2 black star 240w both will be used for both veg / bloom... 4plants in a 4x3 area...

Yah it even feels overkill but i like that almost. As long as the temps arent high i see no reason not to do it just for the fun of seeing if i can get more buds. I just picked up my package and I am amazed that the tent is its own carrying case. I will set up and post up my new setup for now until my fan gets in on the 28th according to the shipping company. This one came in 2 days earlier than they said so fingers crossed eh? anyone else think i could pull 10 zips a crop on 4 ww in 5 gal and 4 auto strains in 3 gal with at least 580w of led and 100-300w of cfl? :bigjoint:

Really depends on the genetics of your plants. If they are really good genetics 10 or more zips is a realistic target depending on growing conditions and your skills.

+rep you know that was a horrible question and you were nice enough to give the answer that wasn't sarcastic like i honestly do from time to time. It will only be my second grow but i think that i could pull 10 zips a harvest outta this even being a novice still. even if i average like .5g a watt which i think is doable that would come out to 10.3 zips without any cfl. With cfl that brings it between 12.1 and 14.8. We will see how my first crop goes to see what kind of ratios i get.
Here are some shots of my drII120 i got set up.

lookin forward to seein the setup and yeah i would say your under estimating the amount you could pull. I just saw my table and i got a month and a lil more left down to 20 plants or so now because of crowding issues. First run on the table and had a 5 foot mother i had to fit in my small ass veg cab so had a lot of clones and nowhere to put em but the table. It did give me the opportunity to pick the best ones, anyhow this strain of sourdx i have is an average yielder i got the report from my buddy who i got the mother from. His nugs were fairly dense, not straight rocks but nice... Anyhow i saw how much weight he lost off of his final and im guessin right now from the video i just saw of my table (stupid suspended license i have no idea why... Keeping me from my plants....) and its lookin like a cool 8 ounces right now or so but that is off a bunch of 2 foot plants and they still have much more developing to go. I could end up with more or i could end up with less, but let me tell you it is lookin freakin beautiful with one 240w, i dont even want to know what 580w of led and 300w of cfl would do in a 2x3 area..... beast....

ahh reminds me of my old closet kind of only on small scale, think 5x5x8, i got a piece of plywood and six 2x4s i ran 7 4 bulb cfl fixtures with 150w equivalent cfl's in them with a mix of spectrums. Total 28 bulbs, to this day some of the people that got clones and some people that got some of the mothers before some things were taken by the ol staties, say they havent seen any plants that healthy from CFL. I think it was mainly their lack of media influx, but still made me feel good. I think it had something to do with the fact that it was a kind of close in environment with lots of the cfl's had some quite short stocky plants. They grew insanely fast as well. Kind of the first thing that got me lookin hard at alternative lighting from HPS and MH because i didnt think it was going to work near as well as it did. Im sure with 300w of cfl and all the LED power you could do somethin quite nice.

I'm in week two of flowering my first plant with a 50w led with like a 7:2:1 red to blue to white ratio (and a 30 watt warm white CFL). I was wondering if I should invest in a blue led light in my next crop for veg or just in a better main light, like a 240w blackstar with 3w bulbs. Is blue light a huge issue with veg? Can you just use a cool white CFL to cover your base there?

one 50watt led and a 30watt cfl isnt gonna do much for you.....as your plants get larger your definitely gonna have to step it up.....ive had pretty good luck with cfl's and led's, the choice is yours to make

yah bro i set up my 100w led and 4 42w cfls in those pics. no ventilation till friday and im still running under 80 degrees. once i move and get my new leds for next round im gonna stuff that cab full of light and marvel at the beauty..... now i think i will start both plants off at the same time since i did better analysis and think that i have room for 4 autos and 4 ww in 5gal at the same time. im looking at my 3 ladies easily being covered by that 100w and i think that almost 600w of led alone could do the 10 zips with minimal grows under my belt. i think i will grab 2 240w flowering versions and just run cool cfl's to supplement in veg.

Well brothers, would like an opinion, think I'm gonna trim out some of the bottom salad! I'm in Day 23 of flower and should have done it sooner but still thinking it would help. Any input?

it doesn't look bad enough in there to me to warrant trimming yet

I personally wouldve done it sooner, but everyone has their own successful methods

I would trim up a few nodes, starting at the bottom to scale things back a little. Everything looks great and healthy and not needing to be trimmed... i just take off most lower growth to avoid have many popcorn buds

But it is your first grow with the Magnums, im tempted to leave all my plants alone just to see how my lower growth does under LED light, should be a good comparison of their penetrating power, if any

I should have done it sooner if I was gonna and really tempted just to see how it goes with the penetration on these lights. Think I might take out the lowest inner popcorn and just leave most of it alone.

Really great point Cereall I would leave a majority of that popcorn on the bottom just to see the penetration on those magnums if it does well than why trim next run ? good point man I like that idea I would go for it since first time growing with LED's checkin that penetration....

lol....so u dont have any faith in the big guns

i thught u were testing out the led......i wanna see if your 357 magnum penetates or not.......1000 watt hps replacement right.....there should be no popcorn buds

hopefully u just let the plants and light do what they do.....go get high or something...lol

Well I guess part of it is that I'm lazy and I freak hate trimming that little crap on the bottom but that being said.....the whole point of me doing this was to see if, and how well these lights work....so I'll just let em ride!

Nothing wrong with popcorn buds. Perfect for bubble and edibles. If you have very dense growth you get it indoors regardless of light source. You can even get some outdoors.
