I think what you are missing is that someone is doing something a bit different with a cannabis plant to see what happens. The reasons behind this 'experiment' are not really important, and the conclusions will be ambiguous at best - however I think it best for us all to join the ride and see if the OP has the patience to see this test to its fruition...

at least findme put the question out there with some tact and delicacy and not just a flat out attack like on the first 20 pages. Haha. Yeah findme -- it's an experiment, not so much a "control study" you know what I mean? I have two plants that came up together I am thinking about trimming one and not the other -- but its scary for me, and they're not clones or even the same seed...so time will decide if I go through with it or not.

unless you cut the fans and then veg long enough to let the smaller leaves grow big and take over as fans then dont bother or you will def get less bud...........done it

Ok bub ! its time for an update with pic's !!!!plz..lol.....And respect to all the lady growers out there!!
anyway my grapefruit plant that is suposed to be a big yeilder has dropped alot of fan 's and have big top buds that have been growing faster then other plants by far..BUT the lower area's where the smaller popcorn buds are suposed to "get bigger the other veriety's of plant's"are not realy growing much now and its not supposed to matter if theres alot of light there...so we will see in the end

cool thread well when it got back on track looking forward to the results im putting my money on both sides coming out pretty even on yield on one side i think you will have allot of little buds vs the other side have a few dominant bigger buds but who knows should be cool. i cut everything off the lower portion of my plants (branches, leaves everything) and i believe this promotes vigorous growth to the main cola fatter denser single cola all the way in sog anyway lol. anyway looking forward to the outcome and +rep for sticking it out and sticking around.
