Could someone please explain the difference between the $20 and the $100 bulb 400 hps bulb. Does one ACTUALLY work better than the other? One is 50,000 lumens and the other is 60,000. I am so darn confused.

the diff is spectrum and in most cases lumens. A hortilux bulb for instance will out perform a philipps standard bulb in every sense of the word. every lumen counts IMHO.

and thats one kickass bulldog! looks like an Eli dog

So the more expensive one would you say the extra money put into it makes a big enough difference to get that vs. the $20 one?

He is an American Pit Bull. He is not as big as he should be due to a head bone disease, mandibular something, but he is just perfect for us. Very VERY good dog.

Take a look at the color spectrum you are buying this is what ultimately makes the difference high in red and yellowfor flowering and budding, high in blue for veg. Thats what your paying more for and also a bt more for lumens I suppose

Buy the 400w Super HPS Hortilux bulb. You should be able to get it for $80-90 depending on how hard you give the internet a search

I'm not sure what the EN means, but you do need to be careful because they make that bulb in a horizontally placed version and a vertical one (and I forget the designation in the name that lets you know which is which). Thats a sweet deal though, I don't think I could find them for less than $90 when I bought em!

Well the more expensive ones come in diff spectrums to suit your needs...but are gonna be better than the $20...look at all the lamp comanies info and decide whats good for you...another cheap but better option is a 430w son agro... like a standard $20 bulb but it has an extra 30 watts of blue spectrum and is about 40-50 bux i think.

Hes a nice dog..thats what i meant by bulldog...he looks like the Eli bloodline. Lucky to have him. :)

Thanks Dizzle. He is the only good boy in my house! He actually listens and is my buddy. He also helps to keep unwanted people away from my house. People see a pit bull and automatically think he is mean. He is sooooooo far from mean though lmao

If it ain't pit its a hell of a lot less likely to maul someones baby to death
Or attack anyone really...

Nice looking dog, I hope its as nice as it sounds!

Back on topic... I did my research a year ago and it seemed like most people agreed that Hortilux made the best HPS bulbs at the time. I don't know if that is still a general accepted view esp with the recent rise of CMH and surely some other bulb companies and new additions to classic companies lines.

I could go into all of the knowledge I learned about pits before purchasing one, due to the fact that I have 3 kids, but I wont due to the site we are on (and I mean years and years of reading and talking because of all the bad I heard). But I can assure you that every single person that I am friends with, including myself, that have pit bulls, they are the best dogs and as people say its the owner NOT the breed. They are strong dogs, so given the wrong owners, of course they could do damage.

Thanks guys!

So you get to call me a whore and assume I've done no research and then declare the topic over so I can't even defend myself or put up a rebuttal?

Hmph

It is definitely worth it to spend the money on a good bulb over saving some bucks on one that will work for a lot less money

What ballast do you use? I'll just let you know that I've been running my 400w Hortilux Super HPS in a 400w Digital Lumatek ballast (that I bought in early 2010) and its running it fine.
