24 hours or 18 hours ??? Help

Starting a grow with ten 600 w hps with veg for only 6 weeks form clones and want ta now which will make the plant bigger and stronge roots for flowering ????

this is from cannabisculture, cannabis is c3, not c4. So it doesnt need a dark period, at all.
Does marijuana require a dark period during the vegetative growth stage? I recently read a grow book that advocated an 18-6 light cycle during the early growth stages.

One way in which plants are categorized is by the way they gather and handle carbon dioxide. Cannabis is a C3 plant. It uses the CO2 it gathers during the light period, when it is photosynthesizing. Plants designated C4 also gather CO2 during the dark period for use during the light period. Many C3 plants, including cannabis, do not need a rest period. They continue to photosynthesize as long as they are receiving light.
The plant's photosynthetic rate determines its growth rate because the sugars are used by the plant to build tissue and for energy. Cannabis under continuous light will grow 33% faster than the same plants on an 18-6 light regime.

Correction plants dont need to sleep ... They have to main cycle's the light reaction and the calvin cylcle During the light reactions the plants make basic sugars during the calivn cycle plants use those sugars acording to van patten auther of the garding indoor books he say's that new test were done to test the old way of thinking on the 18-6 it was found that plants when give 24 of light would Turn on there calivn cycle on more routine bases and grow much faster than when told to do it by the light

18/6 > 24/0 LETS JUST "SAY" Neither side can come up with Hard Scientific Tested Facts.. 18/6 wins on a common sense level, if you are basing your arguments about 24/0 regarding plant grow rate.. IN THE BIG SCHEME, it would not be more than a few days worth of growth. literally 2-3 days. so I think some1 who DEPENDS on 24/0 MUST have some top notch hydro setup thats schedule requires the difference. but if your only worried about plant growth? go with 18/6. I think roots grow more in dark period tho I have never looked it up

6 hours more of light in 30 days= 180 hours, 180 hours=7.5 days/

your adding the days of light. you imply that the PLANT does not grow during dark period? i think your over-thinking it

great info +rep i run my lights 24 hours they never stop. my clones dont veg so i have no worries on that but the moms i veg grow incredibly fast. i have always run 24 veg with no stunted or ill effects for years and years so i dont think its from impatient "noobness" lol.

not noobness.. Moobness Then again I have friends who only Grow ORGANIC and nothing else, some use any nutes. Some use any schedule.. some try to be as "Real/Original/Organic" as possible.

aaa moobness lol i definitely think in this situation its all up to preference really i definitely think the difference between dark or not dark if there is a difference would be very small and prably not very noticeable.

i run floro's for my moms now but when i switch to hps i will definetly go 18/6 just for energy and what not.

Thats like saying growing organic is oldschool IMO. I dont.. but I still prefer 18/6 due to other reasons. I really feel Impatience plays a HUGE role in most 24/0 users. Cause the only reason I ever hear is plant growth rate. My plants grow during dark periods if anything with some fan I would think it would provide for less stretch and thicker stems. imo 24/0 only works for the ppl whos grows require it, Perpetual and such.

Not really. I know roots grow just as well under 24/0 as 18/6. I've done alot of both schedules. a plant does not perform photosynthesis to make energy to grow when its dark, it does the other functions it does all the time when its photosynthesising during the dark and does grow some, but it would have more energy to grow if it was 24/0 because it can perform more photosynthesis. in truth the answer to which is best depends more on the lighting and grow area space. a plant grown under 24/0 tend to be more compact and bushy(most of the growth during the dark is stretch growth), which is great with cfls, and since they are not as strong as an hps or mh the extra 6 hours of cfl light does help them too. if youve got a nice hps and plenty of room and want to save money or like in my case sometimes in the summer its get way to hot during the middle of the day w/the light on so having the lights off for the 6 hottest hours of the day is almost a must. Hps also put out alot more power so the 6 hours isnt as big of a deal as with cfls. if i can i like to go 24/0 for the first 2 weeks and then flip to 20/4 or 18/6 if its real hot with my hps. it helps jump start them and you dont lose so much potential energy.
