I saw on tv awhile ago this retainer thing you put in you mouth while you sleep. I guess it keeps your airways open and makes you stop snoring. I'd check into that.

Here is a quick link to what im talking about. Im not 100% positive on where to pick one up though. Id say try the breatheright strips first cause id imagine they are cheaper and more readily available. But if that doesnt work then the mouthpiece should take care of it.(most snoring comes do to your tounge, mouth and jaw relaxing so much they start blocking your airways, causing snorng)

I vote breathe right strips, I used to sleep with someone who had like a deviated septum and that was the only thing that kept his snoring at bay.

..but then again if its not your nose then I'd try those things in your mouth PMW is talking about.

ask your girl if you are making other sounds like choking of lots of coughing when you sleep. Do you feel really tired even after a good nights sleep if so, you may have Sleep Apenia and may need a breathing machine called a cpap. I am not sayign its hat you have but get checked out because it can kill you in your sleep if its really bad.

I have severe sleep apenia now......and get major complaints about loud snoring......since Ive had the cpap no more snoring and no more stop breathing in my sleep...........you wont die from stop breathing but it builds up over the years.....then major problems.......its a machine that blows a prescribed amount of air, depending on your level of apnia, either my a nose mask or full face mask depending on which is more comfortable with you...I have the nose one..............havent snored since and I feel very rested after sleeping with it...before I was tired no matter how much I slept.

actually its not apenia i have a chronic sinus infection and its always dripping. its pretty thick and i think its my source because at nite when i sleep i breath out my nose which is partially clogged most the time so heavy breathing sounds loud and then i open my mouth o breathe better then there goes the snoring

i thought about the strips and the mouthguard thing but i think the strips could work and i couldnt sleep with plastic in my mouth i sleep so hard i would shift it around and loose it or choke on it.

Great piece of advice here, start playing the instrument "digeridoo". Should be perfect for your situation.

The didgeridoo (also known as a didjeridu or didge) is a wind instrument developed by Indigenous Australians of northern Australia at least 1,500 years ago and is still in widespread usage today both in Australia and around the world. It is sometimes described as a natural wooden trumpet or "drone pipe". Musicologists classify it as a brass aerophone.[1]

Its very easy to play, and a lot of fun when blazed!! You can take tokes off a spliff and play it while you have all the smoke out the end LOL

But here is the primary part:

Health benefits

A 2005 study in the British Medical Journal found that learning and practicing the didgeridoo helped reduce snoring and sleep apnea by strengthening muscles in the upper airway, thus reducing their tendency to collapse during sleep.[13] This strengthening occurs after the player has mastered the circular breathing technique.

A "restrainer" or "breathe proper strip" is just a lazy way out IMO. I currently have a didgeridoo in my room and its quite fun to play. The circular breathing technique is simultaneously exhaling out the mouth and inhaling through the nose. There are many ways to learn it like blowing air in a cup of water with a straw etc... Plus you can fool breath checks for alcohol with circular breathing too, pretty hand talent there :P

If you want to start playing just hit on digeridoo forums and communities, videos etc...

Yeah there are whole communities, not currently a member of one so you will have to google or youtube it. It is very enjoyable to play, gets the diaphram moving, makes you feel more relaxed playing sitting up straight which is good etc... Plus you can mimic the sounds of jungle animals too.

For circular breathing, my flatmate can do it and he wants to teach me but its exam period so im passing. But you can basicly play the digeridoo for 30 minutes with that technique. Its filling air in your cheeks as a reserve and blowing that while you inhale through your nose. It seems impossible at first but you can do it pretty switftly once used to it.

But seriously, digeridoos are cool as shit!

my brother in law was a super bad snorer, bad enough i would never share a hotel room with him. ended up having all kinds of heart blockage and sleep apenia. damn near killed him. he was in his early 30's when he found out. that was 20 years ago and he is in great shape now and snore free.
