First Grow for a Girl

Okay, so it seems my RIU brothas are typically the growers around here without many femmes trying their hand, but I'm going for it!! LOL! First grow EVAH!! Doing a hydro grow with 8 babes: 1 Low Ryder 2 started 1/14; 3 Fast Bud Autoflowers, 2 Pakistan Ryders, 1 Kannabia Power Skunk Bud, and 1 Dutch Passion Orange. The latter 7 were all started on 1/25.

I started the LR2 in an aerogarden system until I got my hydro tub going. I tranferred it to the hydro and started the other ladies in the hydro with all of them under 100W CFL 6500K lights. They did cool, but now that I got the 400W MH system going they are doing much better. Just noticing that the leaves are sorta wide and read somewhere that this could indicate too much humidity in the growing area? I also read that too much humidity can effect the production of resin. Look and see, any suggestions/opinions/help would be appreciated. I'm growing in a bathroom on the other end of the house that is not used. I lined the shower with Black/White poly and set the hydro in there. Got a fan going plus ceiling vent to suck out that skunky skunk smell that's already in the air! LOL! ;-)

The younger 7 ladies will be two weeks old tomorrow 2/8. My older girl is 4 weeks on Friday, 2/11. I've only nuted the LR2 once the week before last. Planning to nute every other week to prevent overdoing it, but also don't want to under-do it either. Using Advanced Nutrients system Micro/Grow/Bloom. Noticed that the LR2 REALLY seemed to take off once I nuted her with this line up, but have no other frame of reference to go on. Your thoughts are appreciated. Let's see what these ladies do!

Holla at cha girl! :eyesmoke:

hey mizz mary :)
gotta say good research on your new grow it looks live you really put your head into it. have you thought about odor control yet? if you live in a house and youre pulling the air straight out that might be an issue...
also, you would be suprised at the amount of female growers we have here :) if you go around the forums i would say the ratio is about 40% women 50% men 10% aliens. :)

Kewl! I gotta check my femme growers out and give a shout. Didn't know the ratio was that "high" (no pun intended ... well ... maybe)! LOL! Odor control, yeah, I'm thinking on that now dude 'cause even as young as they are, I can smell the skunkiness when I enter the area. I put an odor control jar in the grow space today in front of the fan and also have my homemade candles burning in the surrounding area. It's better, but I know I've got to find a long-term solution. Fortunately I live in the woods on 15 acres with the nearest house about a mile away but still ... The vent is sucking the air up into the attic at this point. Any odor control suggestions based on your experience? Holla back!

hey,
that skunky smell right now? double it about a million :D if youre having guests over that dont need to know about your secret i would defenitely invest in a carbon scrubber. Scented candles will work when you veg maybe, but 2 weeks after you flower, it will be unmistakable in and outside of your house :) sounds awsome though to live in the woods :)

Thanks Bro, I will DEFINITELY be looking into the scrubber. It's not uncommon for country folk to pop up without warning for a visit and I don't want ANYONE to know!

Yeah Thacker, me and you both are hoping for some bomb Dutch Passion ... I've heard good things! How's your blueberry doing? I almost went with that strain but thought I'd try to go for something that might be hard to screw up for a first grow. Ordered the Fast Bud Autoflower and LR2, the Dutch Passion and Kannabia Power Skunk were freebies.

Bonzi, I am doing the DWC bubbler grow and have not gotten a hygrometer yet. Gotta budget for the next coupla weeks then kick out for major odor control, ph meter and hygrometer. How long do you think I can go before one is MANDATORY? Don't wanna hurt my girls while I'm waitin' ya know?

Holla back!

Hey MizzMaryJ! Lookin good! I don't consider myself a girl as I am in my 40's, but I am of the female persuasion. I am attempting my first indoor grow in soil. I really wish I had considered hydro. I have been growing outdoors on and off since the late 70's. So, I just jumped into soil. It was all a spur of the moment thing. A decision I am starting to regret! Plagued with fungus gnats and saw a leaf today that has powdery mildew (humidity problem and I gave the plant too much nitrogen causing her to bush out really fast). The hydro environment looks so much more sanitary for indoors.
I do think the broad leaves are caused by high humidity. Mine were pretty big. I managed to lower my humidity some, and the leaves trimmed down a bit... unfortunately, I didn't vent my fave girl well enough and she got PM. :-( My gals are six weeks in veg; they are all in isolation at the moment due to the PM, otherwise I'd take a pic.
Nice assortment you have there. Look forward to seeing more!

edit... I didn't get a hygrometer until last week, I regret not doing it sooner.

She's doing good, she started showing pistils about a week ago so there should be a lingering berry aroma around soon :D. She had mutated leaf growth in the beginning (leaves were all f'd up basically lol) which i hear also happens to some Lowryder strains.

In Priority:

1 - Ph meter (this will also be the most expensive)
Mine: http://www.amazon.com/Hanna-pH-Temp-Waterproof-Tester/dp/B000FA24ZO/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1297113121&sr=8-18
2 - Digital Thermometer/Hygrometer
Mine: http://cgi.ebay.com/Digital-LCD-Indoor-outdoor-Temperature-Thermometer-/180602846983?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a0cc4bf07
3 - PPM/EC meter
Mine: http://cgi.ebay.com/Oakton-ECO-Testr-TDS-low-/130474180331?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e60ddfeeb

The Thermometer is cheep I have 3, Ph meter is a must, TDC/PPM/EC nice to have but my plants tell me when I fuck up.

hahaha awesome post! im also a girl tho very incognito about that one...youre making me so proud! u know u can use those aerogarden systems through seedling which is nice i actually have a couple of friends who use them for the first month of veg!

i definitely think ur nute schedule is well thought out doing every other week at first, especially with the hydro. in a few weeks u should have the "personalities" of the strains down...like those that enjoy nutes u can actually overnute with little consequence. and ofc the strains that hate nutes and want as little as possible. i wouldnt worry about wide leaves on the autoflower as thats usually the genetic, they mostly all look like that.

it is sooooo easy to overnute with hydro...i have a heavy hand sometimes and i find that soil is more accommodating to that, plus i just dont have the filtration set up in my own residence to do the hydro.
great choice of strains for autoflower, but next time skip the ruderalis, girl!!
im gonna hate on it for a second - ew!- i just dont find the tradeoff with yield is worth the short cycle. and i know u can handle the regular strains if u thought out this grow so well!

all in all, awesomeness!:hump: pu$$y power for the win! take that boys :blsmoke: bongsmilie

Hey Indicator! I'm in my 40s too so I feel ya on the "girl" thang! I think all forms of growing come with their own brand of headaches, but we just gotta keep at it 'til we get that prize. :-) How have your grows gone in the past with soil? I thought with soil I would have to grow outdoors until I came on here! Anyways, sorry about the PM, is there any hope of saving them? Let me know just in case I run into that issue. I will definitely be working on getting that hygrometer as it sounds like it's a MUST!! Thanks for stopping by, would love to see your grow as soon as the girls get better. ;-)

Thanks Bonzi for all the links/advice. Sounds like you are a master grower who is much needed around here! Let me get my budget together 'cause I want to make sure I have what I need to sustain a good grow/harvest. Thanks again!

Lovin' you already girl! LOL! Now I just gotta make sure I don't f*** it up and give us ladies a bad rep. School me honey so I know for the next grow round, the yield is really not worth the time and effort on the rudes? Share your experience ... how low was the yield? Yeah, I spend so much time around the ladies I think I'll be able to read them really well in the next few weeks to see what they like and what they don't. I've seen a couple of vids where people grew well into veg with an aerogarden but it just seemed like it wouldn't be enough depth to grow for long. I do regular cooking herbs in mine ... nice grows but much slower than the home-made bubble system. Thanks for the tip on the wide leaves being a genetic thing, I still better get that hygrometer soon tho. It does tend to get a little humid in that space!

Pu$$y power 4 sho!

Holla!
