Allright, I am totally new to this forum. Been reading for a long time and I learned how to grow basically from reading Stink Buds thread about yielding a pound every 3 weeks. After a couple of years of tooling around with a few systems I came up with my own version but gotta give the man props, that shit was truly an Epiphany in my life!! Now, I am proud to say that after a few years of standing on the sidelines I finally get to jump into this game. So its time to post and learn. I just started a Journal and I am still not 100% on how to use the damn thing. So here is my thread.
NOTE: I am looking for CONSTRUCTIVE Criticism so please keep the pointed language to a minimum =) Were all here to learn and contribute th the Science
Ill start at the beginning:
Philosophy and Goals:
First and foremost, I want to be within the guide lines of all applicable laws. I grow medicine for me and my family and we are all licensed MMJ patients in accordance with state & local law. Two of my family members are cancer survivors. I only want to be able to grow enough medicine to meet our needs & this system is based on those pre-determined medicinal needs.
Somethings missing!!
Right off the bat a lot of folks are going to point out every glaring hole in my system. However, I am approaching this project with as humble perspective as possible. For the purpose of future data analysis, I have decided to begin with a baseline system that lacks many items deemed necessary if not critical by most other operations. Some of the key elements purposefully lacking in this initial set up are as follows:
· No CO2
· No Fresh air Intake
· No Water Chillers
· No Air stones
It is my goal to run the first 3 crops with the baseline system then add 1 item every other crop and collect and compare data. I will track specific growth rates per plant for size & collect final weights both wet and dry. I also want to study Root mass growth and compare this data as it relates to the overall quantity and quality of the yield. The prime directive is to determine the ideal recipe for my specific strains.
Choosing a Feeding System:
The first thing I learned about growing is that there are a lot of ways to do it. From soil to Hydroton to nothing but Air; to Drip systems vs. flood systems vs. sprayers and even foggers ..it all gets confusing fast. So for my system I chose to go with an Aeroponic set up for a couple of reasons.
First of all, While Aero can be the most delicate system; it also enables me to have the most control over the feeding and care of my crop, plain and simple. I come from an engineering background and I need control to get real results. It is my goal to collect and compile as much data from every crop that I can. Science proves that when we combine robust control with solid data, we lay the groundwork for truly successful results that are sustainable. I wish to create those kinds of results & evolve them into medicine that is both extremely potent and uniquely pungent; Keyword being unique.
As far as strain choices, I only grow 2 strains because I have experience with growing too many strains in the past and this makes it practically impossible to track and compare data. Id end up with mixed results and when one crop produced medicine that was acutely effective, there was no real recipe in place to replicate it and no data behind it to reveal its composition. Its all too much hit and miss at that point and I dont like missing. Moreover, to produce high quality medicine and do it repeatedly it is best to maintain a small focus.
Specific Medicinal Needs
My choices for clones are also quite limited at the moment; but in terms of fulfilling our medicinal needs, I am looking for each half of the sphere; a great hybrid to stimulate the senses and a pure Indica thatll put you to sleep. Jock Horror is my Hybrid and I have not picked the Indica yet. I chose Jock Horror because it is a very potent Hybrid strain that is uplifting and motivating. It has a much longer than normal Flower time but when allowed to fully mature it becomes the kind of bud that smells unique, tastes terrific and the high makes you want to get outside and play! It only makes sense to work to perfect its recipe. I am thinking possibly a Hindu Kush for the Indica and will provide further information on that soon.
Sit back and have a toke....
