wuttup RIU, so in the very near future i will be re designing my vegg cab.
i want to keep 8 plants in vegg and 8 in flower at all times
for flower they are under a 1000w hps in a cool tube vented outside (room is 3.5 x 5)
i went to the hydro store and this fool was tryna get me to drop $230 on this whole 4
foot t5 fixture with 8 bulbs. bulb per plant sounds good but what the fuck?
HELP
need sufficient lighting and dont know where to start. im stressed...

Have you thought of just making your own it is easy enough. The CFL forums would be a great place for some good advice. CFL bulbs are cheap and they have 6500 K spectrum bulbs at walmart fairly cheap. DWC (Deep Water Culture) Buckets can be made yourself using items commonly found at Walmart along with a homemade EZ cloner. A trip to lowes or home depot may be required as well. You will understand your system better if you build it yourself and if youre a stoner like me, I look forward to my days off work to do these projects. I have a T5HO fixture and like it. I suspect that you would be happy with the results as well. If you think that price is too steep I agree that 400W MH is a good option and HTG will sell you one at $120. Since you are in a cabinet I suspect that you would want to upgrade the reflector to an air cooled option. If you don't have the fan + the price of the upgrade on the reflector I suspect that you will be back to the price of the T5. It's pretty close, your call and good luck with it.

The T5 will last way longer before you will need to change bulbs maybe 4-5 MH bulb replacements to 1 T5. You can lower it so it is almost touching the plants without burning them and there are no heat problems with it.

For whats it worth i veg under a 125w blue cfl and i keep em there till their just over a ft tall then bang em under
a 600w hps..

So id go t5 or cfl and as many of em as you see fit..
cooler temps, closer to the plants and the life of them going to out live any mh set up..
But its your call mate..

difference between cfls and mh is the node spacing

under cfls they stretch up trying to get more light

i would get a cool tube for your mh tho in a tight area

but how long did it take you to get them to a foot IMO if you plan on wanting what your trying to do is your goin to need a clone room remember 8 plants in flower an 8 plants in veg and 16 cuttings for your clone room
clone room the t 5 set up will do the clone room justice good choice in 400 watt MH

so when his 16 clones are ready to veg... theres only room for 8 of them in the veg area

does he just pick the best 8 and cull the rest?

yeahhh hmm.. im tryna understand
my clone pro has 12 spots but i was under the impression that with the system
im trying to do id only keep 8 clones...
im open to new ideas. everything is set up so i just need a plan for the movement through my system..

take 12 clones, and keep the best 8 for veg

I always make the mistake of growing too many plants and once they are bigger they are choking each other out fighting for space and light, and restricting airflow as well as making a nice environment for pests and mold

less plants dosnt always = less bud

better to have less plants that are getting perfect conditions then a heap of plants wasting energy on stem to try to out grow their neighbours and get the light

less plants will give you bigger buds

ive got 10 going now, next grow im going to do just 2 plants and scrog them so they have plenty of bud sites getting full light
