Watering question? +reps

If I dont start the res now how will I know when the roots are established without pulling out the rockwool and possibly damaging the roots if they are established? That is what I am worried about. I think I might just start the res now and keep hand watering until they get a little bigger maybe...

They will start growing. You're not going to hurt anything by hand watering for a week, but you could kill everything by relying on the pumps to provide water.

hey I dont want to start a agruement or a debate about when to fire up the res, im saying to from experence of running 3 systems at once.
my 2 cents are to start it and get the timer set, I post a pic of timer and that on a flower cycle for 18.6 just spead the time out to look the
sam.you need to work the bugs out and there some and it would suck to wait till your plants are like im fucking ready for water and you have
a issue. Il leave this thread alone. If you got any Q just ask but as for now il take a back seat and watch

But with the level he has set his rockwool, the flood cycles won't even moisten the cubes! That's the issue, there need to be roots going down into the hydroton because of how high they're planted. It won't hurt to hand water them for a few more days, as long as he keeps up with it a few times a day.

No...no arguing. I started up the res like you said. I do have the same timer as you. I set it for 2 clicks which should hav been 30 minutes. It filled up and drained right back out. It was still turning on and off on and off when it start draining back out? Is that normal? lol

a few post ago not sure if you read all of them I clearly said to hand water while flooding, A to work out the bugs of the system and to get used to it im also guessing hes
never ran a hydro setup so hes killing 2 birds with one stone, also learning adjusting ph. it would be sad to see all that hand watering to go to waist becouse a issue, also
and I post that his tron was high in the buckets he could also just raise the command box up a inch and problem solved. sorry if Im coming off strong on these issues
but Im very into this system and I have a sense of pasion for it.

When I turned on the res it was high enough to wet the rw. Im just going to leave it on and still hand water until they get a little bigger.

yes it run weird as the water raise to the sensor it shuts off, then the water starts to fill the buckets and the level in the comand box drops and on comes the pump
so it sounds like its working properly

Ya I definetly think it is a good idea to keep it on and to keep hand watering because now I have them in different stages. Some just have taproot coming out and a couple already an inch or a little taller. I will get the hang of it. WHen I hand water should I be pouring the water directly on the rw? Thats what I have been doing. Ive just been giving a tiny bit of water each day just to keep them looking moist.

it also works this way in drain mode if the level is hiting the RW then watch how much you hand water just make sure the rock/wool
doent dry out. also you might want to cover up the rw with some hydrotron to stop algie from geting on it algie loves RW

Gotcha, and no, I didn't catch that. Carry on, nothing to see here...

doent take much on the RW, sound like your on track

So its not actually wetting the roots for 30 mins? Thats why I was a little confused. I thought if you set it for 30 minutes it would fill and then hold the water in the pot for 30 mins then drain. The whole filling and draining didnt even last 30 mins I dont think...
