Expiration Dates

Primarily food. I know some are bullshit and they just want us to throw it away and spend more money. Ramen noodles in no way expire in 1 year. I've eaten 4 year old ramen and it's been dank as day 1. What else has a much longer shelf life than indicated by the expiration date? I'm talking years if need be.

I'm picky about expiration dates and stuff. I know I waste alot of food because when things even start to get close to the expiration date I ususallly wont eat or drink it. Like milk for instance, even if the milk is getting close to the bottom of the carton and the expiration date isnt even expired I wont drink it. Really pisses my wife off sometimes.....lol...sorry

Normaly with food depending on the product there is a sell by date, best before date and a use by date. Go past any of these dates and you proper fucked my man, i mean you will get the str8 up heebie jeebies!

stuff like ketchup, mayo, salad cream (dont think americans get that) and all that shit that comes in jars and bottles, they have a shelf life of a couple of years, but once you open it, you have to use in 6 weeks to a few months, when i know iv had mayo and all thaqt shit way longer opened and its tasted and smelt fine and i didnt spend a day on the toilet after

Expiration dates are not primarily there to get you to toss good food and buy more. The expiration date is simply a date that the manufacturer guarantees freshness through. Go read a date on a box... it doesn't tell you to trash by such and such a date, it reads Best used by:. or Freshness guaranteed through:

If you had a packet of 4 year old Ramen noodles next to a one month old pack, both prepared and ready to eat, you'd be able to tell difference in texture of noodle and possibly in the flavor as well.

I like to think of expiration dates as manufacturer suggestions.

expiration dates on dry goods are mostly a guideline. stale crackers won't kill you, they just taste like shit and might have bugs. canned goods get that metal taste, frozen foods get freezer burn but neither will make you sick just by being "old" as long as the packaging and storage are ok. NEVER eat food from a bulging can fyi. meat and condiments can be judged by appearence and smell. however chicken eggs are usually good for at least a month after the date on the carton, which is weird. they seem pretty perishable but they keep for quite a while.

here in the US I think the grocery stores set the 'expiration dates' on their products? And they can short it a little bit, so people buy more from THEM?

Correct me if I'm wrong someone I'm too high to check my facts, I feel like I saw that on a tv show :lol:

Ouch.. I was a dairy and frozen food manager. As you can imagine, a lot of stuff in dairy only has expiration dates out from 2 weeks to just a few months. while we were never under threat of any such fines, we did realize that having out of date for sale was not business savvy. Customers will end up going elsewhere.

With that being said, i love my Food Lion store! they start discounting meats and dairy items that still have a few days on the date. I know I'll use the item within one to two weeks, so I snap up the items with red tags on them. I rarely pay shelf price.

the meat market, the Deli and Bakery set expiration dates, but they follow state and Federal guidelines. Again, they are only saying they guarantee freshness until that date has passed. It is not an expiration date as in toss in trash..
