SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Federal authorities unsealed an indictment Friday against the founders of the three largest internet poker companies operating in the U.S. The indictment charges eleven defendants, including the founders of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker, with bank fraud, money laundering, and illegal gambling offenses, according to Federal authorities in New York. Restraining orders were issued against more than 75 bank accounts used by the poker companies and their payment processors, while five Internet domain names used by the companies to host poker games were seized, federal authorities added in a statement.
Was fun while it lasted.

Cool. I played quite a bit on a couple of those sites, and while I made a lil bit of money overall, I would say that they're random number generator wasnt so random. You can play poker for a week in a casino and not see as many river losses as one big tourney online.

Im almost positive all of these sites are headquartered overseas. Did they arrest anyone? Im sure these guys take care of the host countries officials and highly doubt we'll see any extradition at least for a long while anyway

It's not rigged. Nobody but me will question you here, but any respectable poker player would ridicule the hell out of you for claiming it is.

And just what will the feds do with all that money??????

I should have cashed out months ago.... this is BS.... yet another infringement on the freedom of choice.... the charges look like fraud has been committed however...

It was bank fraud to circumvent the outdated Wire Act of 1961. Essentially they made payments out to look like legitimate payments from legitimate online merchants which allowed banks to ostensibly transact indirectly with the poker sites.

The site "pokerstars.com" looks like it always does. I have an account, haven't used it for about a year, didn't try to log in as it is on my other computer. Anyway, it is BS...looks like their whole beef & premise is, that the payments were tagged as other then being used for the purpose of playing poker, because a lot of credit card companies will not allow that. So instead, it seems they would tag the buy ins as purchases of real tangible items (jewelry, golf items...as the indictment says) so people could use their credit cards/bank accounts to move funds to have them to play. As far as I'm concerned it is just another way big brother wants a piece of the pie & once they get a huge chunk these sites will be up & running again, if in fact they are now non-operational.

I wasnt saying it was rigged, just that they use a random number generator to decide which cards come up, and that it isnt as random as playing normal brick and mortar poker. If it comes back up and you are a "respectable" poker player, play say pokerstars for example, thats the one I played on mostly, jump into a two dollar tourney and make a checkmark for every river loss. not just for you but the whole table. Do this same experiment at a comparable sized brick and mortar casino or poker room.

So you're not saying it's rigged, but you're saying there is a disproportionate number of occurrences that don't happen with the same frequency of a B&M poker room? Sounds a lot like you're saying it's rigged to me.

Which is absurd, by the way.

You are not very bright are you. The reason that online does not seem as random as Live poker is that you play on average 30-40 times as many hands in an hour. People who say things like this are just stupid or are not very good at playing and need a scapegoat. I for one have been playing online for almost 6 years and know for a fact that it is just as random as any game you will find at a b&m casino.

Must be nice. Did you sit down, or just click an empty seat to see if it would let you buy-in? Or was it just play-moneys (obv not affected).

Well, Full Tilt is still up and running and I can still access my account. Their website is up as well. I never used UB as they took over Absolute (which was involved in a huge cheating scandal a fews back) and I would never trust them.
