cheap 400w bulbs at lowes?

I don't know about their hps bulb but I bought a 400w metal halide bulb from them and am quite happy with it. I would guess if it's got the kelvins your looking for it'd be a wise purchase

I don't know about that. The kelvins aren't the same. If they were nobody would buy 60$ bulbs anywhere else. They may work but not as well.

do the hortilux HPS acutally put out a more useful kelvin range than street light HPS? (not including the MH HPS in 1 bulb)

When I got my first hps (bought used) a few few years ago it had 400 watt sylvania in it. I used it for my first few grows. Did 9 ounces in 6 plants the first time and 12 ounces the second go round. I eventually replaced it with a agromax. I wouldn't hesitate at buying a sylvania again. didn't notice much if any difference.
