Good day/Evening to everyone! I would like to share my oh so noobish south window grow. The sun is out at 06:44 and down at 18:57 today where I live and my room is on the second floor with a single window facing south. There is a room that squares with mine & it has one eastern facing window as well. To the east of my window is a wall that is 1/3 the height of my window and my window is 4/5 of the wall from top to bottom, complete window from corner to corner... Long story short, there's neighbors that can see perfectly over the eastern wall but they cannot see the bottom of my window & thus my plants suffer with only 3 and a half hours of natural sunlight behind a window. I have a timer with two 12" Cold Cathode tubes from my old pc placed directly over my setup (they really are cold enough & light enough to place directly on the plant without damage if air is always circulating & you spray your plants down once or twice a week with a fine mister & distilled water). There is also a 15 watt and an 11 watt daylight CFL that turn on at 6:15 am, off at 11:45, on at 4:15, off @ 12:15 (I usually sleep by then). I know it may not be enough for some of you but my plants have tight internodes on the top ever since I started with this setup. They may not be growing very fast but I don't care right now. I plan on buying 8 more blue CCT's and 10 red ones + 1 green one. I have an extra PC PSU with an "always on" jumper. The plan is 6 reds and 2 blues for flower on top and 4 reds and 2 blues for side lighting. Now for veg, I'll just add more blue and throw a red or 2 in the mix. I'm thinking I'll order in a week or so (broke today).
Question: Will irregular light cycles after my plant's 18/6 create hermies if I'm up past my time on my computer? 24" screen 2 metres away and facing my plants that sit behind me.
I have Topped, SC, LST to keep all of them short and as the description says "Bag Seed" Grow, from various Michoacan strains currently being used in Mexico that I've been purchasing; I hand pick my colas from the inside of the field (where males are kept for seeds) & 10 meters from the outside of the field, upwind from the males at every harvest. I'll be honest, some of it is so delicious but others taste like melted Marlboro cigarette butts in acetone from pesticides 4 bugs (smoking certain sprayed plants out here is determined by time of season and time untill harvest)...
To the good stuff! These plants were popped in a ziplock and towel on the window along with a lemon seed (which is already an inch tall with 2 tiny leaves ^_^!) and are in soil from an area that is lush in vegetation and has a dark chocolate brown color, it stays moist and rich for a reasonable amount of time (even in direct sunlight) + it smells worthy of my grave when it's wet; it has acorns, fine bladed grass, clovers & a lot of decomposed chunks of twigs & the like. I don't have the Mylar I ordered from **** yet or the 3 in 1 soil tester (ordered 1 week ago from china). I tend to water when I bury my finger knuckle deep in the 3 gallon pot & it feels somewhat on the dry side & for the other plants, I simply pick them up to check for weight (I never let my plants go completely dry like some like to do + they are in 20 OZ and 1 Litre cups with proper drainage).
No nutrients (Except a quick shot of some Oaxaca - high elevation arabica coffee, not that it matters what kind I think) and water I've been leaving out for a couple days before using it. Four of the biggest plants have been topped above node #4 & all have been S.C.'ed bellow the petioles. the rest of the plants received LST + S.C.. They all show different traits, I.E.: 3 leaf for the second set and on up on the sugar leafs and it's been topped, the lateral branches show 5 leaf sets now o.0. I know it's pretty normal & it might be a crappy plant but it's something and something is better than nothing. Another plant (3 gallon) has a really thick stalk for it's age and I swear on everything that it smells up my room the next day after I water it, the rest don't smell much. I rub it ever so lightly and it is SUPER DANK! Another one has lateral growth where the petiole used to be but only on one side of the stalk... what a dysfunctional family! HAHA! Anyhoo, I'm going to give them nutes when they're ready for flower unless the tester tells me different... My room stays a pleasant 85F degrees day and night now (I HATE IT) but fluctuated between 72F and 81F degrees a month and a week ago when the first 4 popped up, 3 popped a week later, and the last one a week later. I have a seed from some unknown lemon strain x unknown. All I know is that the plants were short with some redish brownish hairs and a short bushy look with mostly indica leaves (I'll keep you all posted when it pops up).
Whew! Anything I left out? elevation is around 1200 feet & the weather is constant with humidity between 35% & 68%.
Ideas? Suggestions? Feel free to comment ^_^
