Exhausting a vented hood?

I have a big vented hood I'm using for my 400W hps bulb, the hood has 2 six inch openings on both sides for exhausting. My question is, if I plan on just exhausting (pulling the hot air out of the hood) should I cap the other end of the hood off?

The dilema here is that I'm blowing ac air into the same room with just a window unit, so I don't want to pull all the cold air out of the room as well! That's why I'm wondering if its ok to cap the other side, so I'm not pulling fresh air right out of the room but only the hot air out of the hood?

You gotta have glass in the hood, this seals it and the other hole is the intake.

You have a glass lens on that light? A pic would be nice.

You'll pop the glass if you cap it off.

You need to ventilate the hood. In with the fresh out with the bad,,,,,

Here's a pic,,,,,

Wow! Fucking nice setup man!

And to OP if the cool hood has a glass pane then one side needs to be left open.
This is to allow new fresh air to be passed through the hood...
1x6" opening for intake
1x6" opening for exhaust

It is an actual question (legallyflying), do to certain circumstances in my flowering room, If you don't have an educated reply like the real professionals, then don't waste your own time posting.

Yes It does have glass, Thanks Boomer! That is a nice setup you have there, I definitely don't want to pop the glass!

Certain circumstances? huh? Your going to plug the one end of the hood and put a big fan on the other?

Just for shits and giggles, where exactly did you think the air was going to come from?

Someone was stoned in physics class.

Tbh if you want to put something at that end consider a Cheapo DIY carbon filter (two pieces of cloth with activated carbon in the middle)then just tape around the sides it shouldn't constrict the airflow much. But will scrub it before it even enters the hood

yes, they make can filters that will fit on the end of your hood, a little filter with 6" inlet.. or you could do like me (check my grow) and just put some panty hose or similiar material on end and leave it open, and pull the air thru and out.. you have a few options, but one of them is not capping off the opening.. don't worry about people like legallyflying bro.. lol good luck- peace

If you want to maintain a sealed grow room and want to just vent the heat from the hood you have to make a sealed system for you light alone. This means you would have an intake from outside connected to 6in ducting which runs to one side of the light. Then you would have a 6in line comming off the other side that is connected to your exhaust fan, from there you would put a 6in line on the other side of the inline fan and exhaust it preferbally back outside.

Hope this clears up the confusion....
