Do you use technology to survive or to make life easier?

Hypothetically speaking, lets say the sun emitted an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) and killed anything with a computer chip. How greatly would this affect your life?

This would be, cell phones, computers, newer cars, and pretty much everything else you're use to in today's world.

I would be lost, farming nowdays, GPS steering, markets, and the ability to talk to hired help.

I have thought of this scenario many times, we have become slaves to technology, take away and the world stops.

Complete collapse of economy. Solar flares are a real threat, the cylces are set for large ones.

I heard stated that some of these larger flares could even take out a large part of our magnetosphere. Leaving us open to solar radiation.

the only one that it would really fuck me up with would be not being able to drive my whip.. i don't even drive that often being out of work atm, but fuck, there's not much i enjoy more than a nice summer day and a blunt or two and rolling the windows down and turning the radio up and driving aimlessly around, just enjoying the beautiful day..
i'd miss my laptop and me phone, but i could surely live without them no problems.

On the bright side a stash would last ages as you would be worken your ass off to stay alive (farming hunting gathering chopping wood building cooking ext) would be one long freaken day realy would not have time to chill all that offen untill the end of the day

I wonder if the changing of the poles could "lower our shields"?

Scary to think civilization could be changed in less than a second and no one would know what happened.

From what I have read and heard this is happening already and has happened in the past.

Just not sure where that leaves me, hopefully in a warmer climate.

well we ve got 16 months to figure it out. we ll be getting hit with a massise coronal mass ejection from the sun near the end of 2012. its certainly going to kill anything with a computer chip that isnt in a lead proofed box.

atleast 2ish years for power to start to get back flowing.

thing is, most humans will have gone postal in 30 days. No Electricity, no Food, No Shipping, No phone, No TV, no Internet, No anything for the last 150 yrs. we ll be back to 1800s soon. then people will flip out, and we ll see the worst of man kind then.

Nothing is happening in 2012 except people that buy into those absurd theories and decide "hey the end is near, fuck it...I've always wanted to shoot up a school." They'll spend a while in prison, because I don't think Armageddon is a legal defense.
