Cloning/Sexing When and How

Ive got a few plants that i started from seed about 4 weeks ago. I want to take some clones from each plant and toss them into a 12/12 light cycle to see if its mother is a female.

1)Will this work to sex the plants?
2) When can i take the first clones?
3) Whats the best way/time to clone with gel?

You don't need to use any rooting hormone if you are only going to sex the plants; simply place the cutting in a cup of water so part of the stem is submerged and place under 12/12. The plants that have several nodes established, I would FIM the tops to encourage branching. Once you have a new branch that is 3 nodes long, you can cut and then sex the plant.

Ok, so i just cut the top off like 3 nodes down at a 45deg angle and place it in a cup of water under 12/12 and it will either start budding or turn male yeah?

What do you mean by "FIM the tops"?

Should i take clones first and then sex the plant after it branches out...?
