PLEASE GO TO THIS MEETING TOMORROW SO WE CAN PROTEST THIS ORDINANCE AND HAVE THEM TAKE IT BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD!!!

Third hearing for marijuana ordinance set

By ROGER H. AYLWORTH - Staff Writer

Posted: 05/22/2011 10:46:34 PM PDT

The hearing will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Butte County Fairgrounds, 199 E. Hazel St. Gridlley California. The hearing will be the third one on the proposal that, if adopted, will establish the county's regulations for the cultivation of medical marijuana.
The proposed regulation prohibits all growing of cannabis on parcels of less than one-half acre. On lots greater than one-half acre but less than 1.5 acres, the proposal would allow the growing of a total of 12 plants, but only six can be mature plants.
As the size of the lot grows, the number of allowable plants also increases until one reaches a parcel greater than 160 acres. From that point on, no matter how large the lot, the ordinance allows up to 99 plants, either juvenile or mature.
While garden sizes are tied to lot sizes, the ordinance also says that no matter how large the parcel, no plants can be grown within 1,000 feet of a school, school bus stop, playground, church or residential drug or alcohol treatment facility, among other facilities.
Other items in the current proposal would require growers in some situations to register with the county Department of Development Services.
Also, the grower must be a resident of Butte County, and there are other proposed regulations.
Gardens found to be in violation of the ordinance would be declared a public nuisance and could be "abated" or removed under the code. Hundreds of individuals opposed to previous incarnations of the proposed ordinance have turned out for the previous two hearings — one in Oroville and one in Chico.

Tuesday's hearing is being conducted at the fairgrounds in an effort to find a venue large enough to accommodate the crowd.
The supervisors will begin their meeting at 9 a.m. in the Supervisors Chambers in the County Administration Building in Oroville.
After opening the meeting there and dealing with some items on its regular agenda, the panel will adjourn the meeting and go to the fairgrounds for the medical marijuana hearing.

Butte County Supervisors 10:30 a.m. Tuesday

as far as i have heard indoor or not it depends on lot size. thats what is so screwed about this whole proposal. there arent even that many people who live on more than a half acre in this county. Im lucky enough to be on a half acre, which is plenty of room for the garden i have, and with this proposal i will have to rip it out..... not good.....

so i just searched online and was reading that last year in april they passed a thing where over 20 you can grow as long as you have a 6 foot fence and your not near schools or bus stops, but under 20 you can grow, but you have to get permission from the city.....ok so who is really gonna ask the city to grow like 2 plants in some pots in your back yard, theres way to many people growing in northern cali that its ridiculous to even try and restrict it like that.

oh okay so it says tehama you cant grow more then 12 mature if you have less then 20 acres right now, the question is, you have lets say 3 scripts, so youd be aloud 18, assuming every script your aloud 6 mature like i thought, so you have 3 scripts but you are growing on a acre of land, you wouldnt be abole to do that becasuse you dont have 20 acres??? did i read that right??? cuz that sounds riciculous, who has 20 acres of land

Wow, I hope everyone makes it out to vote that down, what a stupid piece of legislation. How many of your tax dollars are being wasted for your town officials to come up with these stupid ideas? And not for nothing, it seems like weed is a big cash crop for a lot of people in Cali, why does these officials want to fuck up their local economy?

they are trying to do this because there are other county residents that say they dont like the smell come harvest time, they also say that every grow on less than a half acre is a public nuisance because of thieves and should be removed. What they are trying to do is restrict the amount of grows because so many people are growing on their own properties. i have a personal friend that is a game warden and he told me that due to the fact that so many people are growing on their own properties, there was a huge decline in the amount they had to eradicate out of the national forests! now personally i think that is a great thing! people should keep it to their own properties and keep out of the national forests!
What sickens me is that there is a huge brewery in the middle of Chico ca and it stinks year round like piss (alcohol kills people) and they are talking about expanding as well, but theres no regulations on that smell, now they want to restrict us mom and pop growers because of smell(this is their biggest argument by the way) smell shmell, its only for 2 months out of the year, they need to go screw themselves!

anyways if any of you nor cal guys on here live in Butte County (i know theres a bunch on here) Go to the meeting in Gridley this morning at 10:30am! lets protest this whole dibockle...

I guess one man's trash is another's treasure, there are many worse smells out there, like breweries. So what's next for the people of Butte? Outlawing the skunk population?

the meeting is still going on... i stayed as long as i could but i have things i need to get done today so i had to drive back home. but from the looks of it i really dont know, its really on the fence and could fall either way... out of the 60 something people who spoke only 12 people where for the ordinance... so that goes to show that the majority is against this ordinance... i really hope they do not pass it... even if they do there was flyer's being passed around that says there will be a petition, i guess we have to get 10,000 signatures. i will definitely sign, im a registered voter/taxpayer/butte county resident that will do anything in my power to fight this ordinance that is refusing the average person their right to their medicine.
