This post is a question/opinion kind, keep this in mind.
I understand many people will not know what I am talking about when I say Cyprus, but I will explain. Cyprus is a small occupied island, smack bang in the middle of the Mediterranean sea:
I've been living here for my whole life and I must say it's hard to be a stoner in this place due to the outburst of propaganda in the 80's and since then in the minds of the citizens the only ones who smoke bud are the high school dropouts and hoodlums. It is as illegal as can get where even a gram of pure white yayo is cheaper than a nice baggy of smelly skunk.
Even with a simple court order for a drug test landing you positive can get you in jail for possession and 5 grams is 8 years for possession and distribution!
Most of my friends smoke yet none of us are high school dropouts or criminals just "average joes". Cyprus used to be a English colony and so it's laws are an exact replica. There are no political movements here on the issue of legalizing but there have been protests. My question is, isn't it about time something got done? Maybe a foreign political movement like NORML (not suggesting them, just an example) which can inform people here about all the myths that evolve around cannabis and it's medicinal properties as well as it's industrial uses? Clothing, fuel, paper, rope, food ...and goes on. Even if not able to initiate such a thing just to help in creating a party that will bring naysayers to their knees.
My effort here is perhaps futile but I had to speak out somewhere and get some opinions from other people. As always toke on!
