some progress:



greenhouse is mostly up, just need to add some stabilizing supports and raise the scratch for the plastic sheeting.



got the tomatoes in containers but not a lot of sun for them right now.



catnip is getting bigger.



the radishes i started indoors are moving along. you can see one of the seeds i planted the other day behind it.



i can't believe the lettuce all survived and is doing so well.



corn and sunflowers finally breaking the soil.



onions and taters moving along nicely.



this is a citrus meyeri that i thought was dead, but let it go anyway. well, you can see the new growth that has climbed out of the soil. it made my day.



i was weeding the other day and found this: a baby japanese maple tree from seed with cotyledon and all. it has a new growth shoot which is getting bigger, very slowly.

the green house looks off to a great start to. what do you have the ends of the pvc attached to so they stay in place?
that Japanese maple is a cool find to. do you got it in a pot now? and also i saw some bonsai Japanese maples and they look really cool

they are sweet walla walla onions. they have been in the ground since march 15th and i have been very good about watering them, so they are doing well.

the ends of the pvc go through some holes i drilled in the lumber. i will make sure they stay in by drilling a screw through the wood and pvc, thus anchoring it in.

apanese maple is in a pot and i do plan to bonsai it. i found the mother lode of them a little further downtown. i will be stopping by some time at night with a shovel and a bag of dirt. i will likely look like a madman, but oh well.

ha ha, too rich for my blood (the initial set up, that is).

as a barely self-employed house hubby, i stick to whatever is cheapest. sadly, natural ice is on sale this month.

but a good summer could change all that

today was surprisingly nice and it is supposed to get warmer and warmer by the day now, or atleast thats what the weather channel says. supposed to be 75 in a day or 2 here. and im not on the coast, im about 90 miles away from it.
im in southern oregon.
im glad the weather is finally getting better.

it hit about 90 here today. the corn is loving it, i even had a few other seeds (cantaloupe, zucchini squash) pop out today.

a lot of the small seedlings are suffering a lot of damage from the chickens, neighborhood cats, and ants. i wish i had enough money to fence them off.

natty ice is ok until it gets anything less than ice cold. than it tastes like...well...shit. not that i know what shit tastes like.

productive day in the garden today. weeded 60% of the fucker (they grow so well here, gotta weed very often).

pulled a few radishes. it was my first time ever eating a radish, they taste like spicy carrots. my wife said they were very good. man, they sure finish quick.

also had to pull a few sweet walla walla onions that got trampled by chickens and neighborhood ants. they are anywhere from 1/3 the size of a store bought walla walla to just a wee little bulb. letting them dry out and skin up before i cook them tomorrow. can't wait! caramelized sweet walla wallas are the best.

about 45 of the 100 corn seeds i planted 3 weeks ago are above the ground. to fill in, i planted a shit load of popcorn seeds. i did that last year and it worked, so i figure why not again? cheap seeds.

zucchini squash are coming up, pumpkins are getting bigger (slowly). watermelon is popping up but not doing much yet, needs to get hotter and sunnier.

strawberries are finally forming, can't wait until they start to redden up.

no pics, i got lazy. once there is a little more to see i'll do another round of pics.

ya man those radishes grow very quick its like you plant them and the next day your harvesting.
and my walla walla's last year only got to about golf ball size, but let me tell you they were the most flavorful onion ive had in a very long time, im hoping they get a bit bigger this year.
also do you know if you have to let them cure and get a skin?
last year i just picked mine and used them within a week and they seemed fine

yeah, i hear you are supposed to leave them for some amount of time to develop that skin. i won't be having any such patience. i will be caramelizing them pronto and putting them on a sandwich with eggs from my chickens and bread my wife made herself (also using eggs from our chickens).

i just read in a gardening book today that they need to cure in the sun for a few days if you plan on storing for a long period of time, and if used within the week of picking then it should stay good.

and bend brewer, i had some lilacs but they have already dies off, we got spring weather for like a week and then a freeze hit so they kinda just died
