no lilacs, but i have made some progress on the greenhouse.

got the first sheet up and am going to leave it for a day or two to see if it holds up. if it holds up, i will be finishing it up by friday.

the plastic turned out to be much cheaper than i thought, and it also turns out that 3.5 mil plastic is sufficient to block sight into the greenhouse. no need for 6 mil.

last thing to do is to get some 5 gallon buckets and a good soil mix. still undecided on what kind of mix though. i am thinking soil, peat, and compost. perhaps some perlite, too.

i have a few good strains ready to go out there.

looks good man.are you growing in 5 gallon pots? why not just put them in the ground?

im glad its not as spendy as you thought either. and your mix for dirt sounds like it should be fine, im sure if you look around you can score some free horse or cow manure. it really helps and its FREE.
the more organic matter the better. are you gonna be adding any benifical fungi of any sort?

just got to plasticize the front and the back. it is now very stable. should have plants in there by tomorrow.

i think i will cut out the bottom of the 5 gallon buckets and half bury them. the compost i will use to fill them will contain mychorizae.

the ground here is clay, but it seems to do well with the other plants. i was just worried about nasty creatures in the soil.

ya all my soil is clay to, where ever i put my plants though i figure that once there roots take up the space in the good soil then the roots should start to be strong enough to break through tougher soils, just my thought though.

went out this morning and bought two 5 gallon buckets of lava rock, two bags of compost, two bags of roots organic, a bag of fox farm, and some earthworm castings. i have some perlite leftover that i will also add to the mix. got my buddy coming over to help me put up the last sheets of plastic in a bit.

once the plastic is up, only need to dig 5 more holes and we'll be ready to transplant some of my indoor teens into the great outdoors.

once this is all done, there will be a day or two of rest, and then i will get back to updating the veggies. the strawberries are turning red and we've already been using the herbs, radishes and lettuce in our meals. been harvesting a few onions that get trampled but have yet to use them.

everything is done. i just have to mix the soil and transplant tomorrow.

it was a lot of work. pics to follow when i regain my strength.

now that this is done, i can refocus on the rest of the garden. i am a bit behind on a lot of things.

they look great man, they have alot of room to grow into and im sure they will need it.
i take it the lava rock is to deter certain pest. no?

i also wanted to ask if you are purring a fan in for circulation and if you will have fresh air intake to help keep it cooler, i dont know how hot it gets up theri but but down here with out circulation a GH easily hits 120.

also where the cages at man, im sure you will need some sort of support:lol:

i'm going to hit up garage sales this weekend looking for box fans. two in the front near ground level, one in the back, top and center.

and yes, i am still contemplating what i will use for support. likely stakes/poles and fishing line.

edit: lava rock is at the bottom of each hole for drainage, and around the buckets for pest determent. i plan on putting some chards of glass in the buckets themselves to REALLY deter pests. i will be neeming tonight once it gets dark enough. never too early to start on the preventative pest control :)

now that they are in their final places, i can foresee all the problems i will be having.

need to get some box fans, 2x4's, and extensions cords.

luckily, we have some cool weather in the forecast for now.

lady bugs are nice to have as a prevenotor as well, plus theri cool. cant wait to see them take off

looks great, what are the fluffy animals, i assume chickens but they are some fluffy bastards.

so how long did you let your potatoes grow. mine are in a pot and the pot is now almost full of dirt, i was just wanting an idea of how long they take to form

the potatoes went about 105 days, they are yukon gold. they could have gone another two weeks or so, and the bucket is a great idea. no need to dig so much, leave potatoes in the soil, cut potatoes with the shovel, etc...

and yes, they are chickens, they are a smaller breed called silkie chickens. the black chicken in the cage has gone 'broody', which means she just sits on eggs 23.5 hours a day. once we were sure she was broody, we got her some duck eggs to lay on. the only way to break broodiness is to let them hatch some eggs. so, in about 3 weeks, we will have little ducklings following that chicken around.

my wife is beside herself with anticipation of the little ducklings.

thanks for the info man, and ya i was gonna do tires for the potatoes and make tiers but it didnt seem like the best thing in a organic garden.

ive been wanting to get a small coop and some chicks for awhile now, but i dont think my city allows it unless you live outside of the city. but we do have chickens on the farm, i forget the name but they make baby blue eggs
