I can't stand when people hate on Oakland. Yes there are poor people. Yes there are black people (good). But if you check wikipedia, it has more 'artists' per capita than any other city in this country. Put that in your bong and smoke it mister ganga smoker.
why do i need to check wikipedia when i can drive down high street?
maybe they've cleaned the place up since i've lived there.

It's also a really good place to get robbed. It is one of the most dangerous places in the country. I still go to Oakland frequently, but when I do I know exactly where I'm going and don't wander around. It can be quite sketchy. If you walk down MLK with a pack in your backpack I guarantee you won't be thinking about what great artists Oakland has.

Oakland has it's nice parts just like every other city, but for the most part it is a hell hole! I went painting by the railroad tracks and let me tell you it was a BAD IDEA!!! we were chased out of there and had rocks thrown at the car as we were trying to get out of there! Very shocked we didn't get shot at! I dont hate oakland but the city has MAD gang problems! I don't even like leaving my car parked outside, when i go to my friends he parks his car outside and I bring mine inside the gates!

I gotta agree! Jack london square is cool and I love fentons dont get me wrong! Oakland has some nice parts but down there by the lake just is not so good. Oakland is not the bahamas! haha or orange county.

I know a few people who paint those yards, and a bunch who did it back in the day. People get robbed at gunpoint for their paint there frequently. It's the kind of place you should only go if you're bringing locals with you.
my buddy was doing some telephone repair work up on a pole one day in oakland. he accidentally dropped his pliers. before he could climb down the pole to get them some dude ran out of nowhere and grabbed them and ran.
he used to have to bring his dog to work to keep in his truck to keep people from stealing all the tools out of it while he was up on the pole.
i wish "oaksterdam" would have developed somewhere other then in oakland. i guess you gotta go where the police already don't care though.

It's just a failed marketing gimmick anyways. I wish the media would stop proclaiming it at the epicenter for medical marijuana. Harborside is the only dispensary in the city worth a damn and it isn't even in the Oaksterdam area.
