Thursday Night Chop Down!

Thought I read the htg light used 2w diodes, I'll check again. It's because my cab is so narrow that I've stuck with CFLs so far. Got about 19" of depth, and currently using 23" width but could use about 47" if moved things around a bit. If I veg in the wider area the height is fixed at 20" and I think that may be a bit too short, but if that'd still work fine I can do that. In the morning I'll get a pic of the overall cab as it is right now to show you what I mean.
at only 20 inches high, you should make sure the diodes have a wide angle of view. this way you get the most coverage possible. you will not have a problem with lumens or PAR. it's gonna be all about the coverage for ya!!!

Looking good stoney....you convince me more and more every time you update, to go LED. Hopefully someday soon I can take that route. √√
Thanks so much dude!!!!! they will come down in price significantly soon enough... once plasma's start getting perfected, i have a feeling LED's will be obsolete. this will take quite a long time but i think plasma is the future. IMO

Stoney what it do? I still haven't upgraded my light setup but I'm working on it. I keep going back and forth between LED and HPS. I want to go the LED route but you can get 400w HPS systems from htg for 120 bucks, and that sounds nice because I'm strapped! Just worried about keeping the temps down out here in the desert. Love the giant growbox you built, those LEDs are too sick. Nasty nugs as always brah. :leaf:
Thanks man!!! good to see ya around!!!!! $120. is a sweet deal!!! you would spend over $500 to get that in LED. Temps can be a huge issue if they get out of hand... ya just gotta spend more money on the ventilation and cooling. sometimes LED isn't a bad trade off... plus the longevity of them helps out to! keep em green and rock hard!!!!! good to hear from ya bro!!!

well stoney i finally got my bud room finished ,got my spectra 290 hung, and its their 1st day under it.here some pics of my bagweed seed plants that were budding with the ufos, i planted 3 new seeds 2 short riders and 1 white widow so far 1 ww and 1 sr have sprouted i used miracle gro starter soil i just dont know when to water it ,it always seems dry to me,ill have to get used to growing this way when they are about 2 weeks im gonna replant in peat moss and perlite and use guano tea recipes i got from irish, your box seems brighter but you got 2 180s and i have 1 290. any thing you see in the pics that you can help me improve on please do.thanks bro
Thant light looks sick bro!!!! 160 3w diodes!!!!! that's a lot of PAR!!!!! the coverage looks perfect for your setup.... color looks even all the way across, a little brighter in the center, but that is expected. your plants look great to, no stretch and nice tight buds!!!! the cabinet looks great!!! did ya have any issues with light leaks?

one thing your gonna wanna do with LED's, is rotate your plants around often. just like you would with CFL. looks really awesome though!!!!

beautiful work as always.

93 93/93
Thanks bro!! the next few weeks are gonna be some great lookin buds!!! stop by anytime!!!!!

Yup, hopefully I'll hear back from Mike soon and will be able to decide what to get. If he is coming out with a small veg light soon and it isn't too much I'll probably go with that so I don't have to worry about quality and it crapping out on me.
Also, putting pics in my journal in a min to show what I mean so as not to clutter yours.

thanks for the compliments ,the only light leak issues r on the vent holes i got cut up peices of a brown towel over them now not quite light proof but if i get it light proof it muffles the air flow but if i keep my room mostly dark i think it should be alright,i changed from light on at 6am til 6pm to 6pm til 6am so the lights off on the hottest hours of the day too,and im 290 007.jpgthinking about tying some branches down so the light can penetrate them more how long would u say i have left on these 2 plants that r budding?by the way those arent crystals on the leaves its sawdust lol

i run the same light schedule, 6am off/ 6pm on. It's always the highlight of my early evening!! tyeing them back to let more light in, is always a good idea!!! I'm not sure how much time you have left... it will be a while, is the best i can say. i usually start looking at the trics when the the hairs turn brown and start receding back in .

Will do, think you'd get one if he is? do I hear a group discount request in the future? And thanks, I'm really happy with how bushy she is from having been under the hps the whole time, but I wish I had plants like yours man. Hopefully one day.

I found an old thread using a 90w Spectra, seems he sold them a while ago. I wonder if Mike still has any left to sell even if he isn't planning to produce a unit that small again. Here's the thread: https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/187131-spectra-unit-90watt-led-grow.html looks like this unit would work great for our needs if it were tuned for veg a bit more.
somewhere along the growth, GLH changed the name of their products. most of it was due to an impostor company named HGL or something like that, they tried to come off as GLH and was ripping people off. so mike changed it to spectra series and the model number is the actual draw of power at the cord. in the past the model number was the number of diodes divided by the wattage rating, like many other LED companies do.

so yes, i believe he did sell a 90W in the past. i believe he sold 4 or 5 products at one time.... now he has only three listed. keep me posted on his answer to you please. i am interested as to what he has to say.

Okay, I'd read some stuff about HGL and and everything was negative but had not heard that before. Good for GLH for coming out of that intact, woulda really sucked if they'd gotten screwed by it. Kinda confused me with the numbering thing, so are GLH lights equal to higher or lower wattage rated lights from other companies? Normally hear from him within a couple business days so hopefully we'll know by Wednesday. And I'll be sure to relay whatever he tells me.

Btw that tops looks insane, never seen that before!

It's not that GLH rates them higher or lower, He rates them as actual drawn wattage. as an example, the spectra 290 has 160 3w diodes. any other LED company would rate this panel as a 480W. That is BS.... Mike knows and admits that diodes cannot run at 100% without burning out quickly.

I'm not sure if he is trying to set the standard for others to follow, but I sure do appreciate the honesty of his product details!!!

and it's the first time my BB has grown like that... I've seen many other breeds of BB grow like that and always wondered why mine didn't..... maybe it is because i have enough light now or maybe from proper nutes... maybe both!!

Oh, that makes a lot of sense. Thank you for clearing that up for me! So I guess that means it's best to ask any other producer what the actual power draw is before trying to rate or compare their products to another company. And either way, it still looks awesome!

yep, that's exactly what you want to ask them. knowing the actual draw, and the amount and size of the diodes, you can do the math and tell how good the drivers are that power them. the better the drivers, the more power they can safely deliver. just take into consideration the amount of power the fans use... don't quote me on this but i think the fans are .42W each.

that purple shot is wild, great looking buds!!
Thanks bro!! i thought it looked candy coated in the purple light!!

If I look into any other companies I'll try to remember to check all that at the start, but I think I'm gonna stick with GLH for now at least. Woke up this morning and already had a reply from Mike! Here's part of the email I got from him "Yes I do have a Spectra LED 100w panel which is a UFO style light. I have some that are for veg/clone/mother plants only and provide a blue/white spectrum only. If your interested they run $289.99." I'd say that's a pretty good deal considering we know his lights do what he says they will. I'm more than happy to pay a higher price for a product I trust, now I just gotta start saving some money haha.

Stoneyluv & all you regular guys I just want to say thanks for all the info you have shared on this thread. I'm a 1st time grower 8 days in with white widow & master kush and although I'm using a 600w HPS the stuff I've read on here has been really helpful. I think I stumbled on to this thread checking out weed & diabetes but I've ended up reading the whole thing! inbetween checking out my new babies of course. So I've subscribed and look forward to more & more info rollin in.

Cheers for now

Thanks for posting that!!! did he happen to say what the recommended height was? or the the coverage area?

Not yet, I'll send him a reply and ask those as well as the dimensions of the unit. Thanks for the reminder on those.
