Auto Grow Start

seriously I think at this rate Im gonna grow each one different and post results. I can get max 10" thats bout 2 gallons but thats the uber max, I can do that tommorrow morning, but people seem to have alot of different opinions on auto =/

Some advice for you, if you wish to take it. Autos are better started out in their final pots. Your space is limited I guess so a 1 gal CAN work, just not best. I grew an auto in a party cup to harvest, it can be done. I just had roots growing out the top, just like you said. I would advise against trimming. Instead, try LST or the Leaf-tuck method. Once the lower branches gain a bit of height, you can tuck older fan leaves below the bud site. It will then shoot up once it gets the light. Trust me it works better. There's no need to trim.

I must disagree from my experiences with autos. To each his own, but I have found with calculated trimming and proper side lighting (near 1/5 the power of the top light) this method is valid. I've tried LST which works well but given the lighting (LED) that I use and the CFL Guru has up it makes a bit of sense to ensure the colas get their due. My rationale is based purely on my experience. I just chopped an onxy auto from short stuff seeds. I'll post pics if Guru doesn't mind them in his journal. Please keep in mind I would never trim a fan leaf that I thought wasn't stunting the growth of a budding cola.

Of course post up man, I just wanted to say the SAD which I went all shining on is doing well, bizzarley I woke up this morning and its actuallly grown to be the biggest one there, I assumed chopping was meant to stunt it, so kinda poking it with a stick at the moment in my birds lab coat, (she is a scientist in eco stuff, yuck ) but I love the jacket lol

thats a really nice grow man, seriously! but you got allot of lights on the bad girl, hps and cfls- im kinda limited on space atm and one light. The main thing I want is to get massive colas rather than yeild, I know this is wierd lol but im doing it for the experience of getting a few massive colas from a few diff types, after ill grow a tree again again to keep me going till xmas lol

So just went to get thouse ten inch pots, yeah they wont all fit, so took them back. Gonna work on the plants just now, Hoss whack up some pics if you want, but thanks for asking!

Also was doing my snipping when I noticed something a little odd the white pistels on the stalk have brown tips already, not sure what thats about my usual grows stay white untill the buds fully formed. some are already about 60% brown, not too worried, just some random ones so I think it could just be naturual, they aren't budding ones anyway =/

Pistils on the stalk will turn red a lot faster than the one on the bud. It's just because they're older.

No prob man, I'm still learning too. My 3rd grow and I've gotten a hell of a lot better at it lol. So for one main large cola I would just let her do her thing, honestly. I mean that's what the plant wants to do, go straight up to the light. Of course some lower branches will head off sideways to get more light but many will grow straight up into each other. Sorry, not much I can say here, I always LST. We keep going back and forth on each other's threads lol

Guru - you should experiment and see what works well. I'll stand behind my method for the reasons stated earlier but would like to see what comes from trying different methods if you're up to it.

Sorry hoss, LST is out of the question its too late because I cant bend it down without taking out another plant and that would just be utter madness! I trimmed the fan leaves and the plants are responding positively, I hope just for big singular colas, Id like it if I could chope everything off and just leave the main cola so it gets all the energy but thats impossible =( bad times lol you technically working again bro? I may experiment lollipopping one but thats about as much as I can, shame I got my birds lab coat by in the cupboard would of made awsome pic lol

Well after alot of leaves bieng hacked we can see the flowering sites alot better now so thought Id update Auto maria 2 is looking a bit sad but thats just cause she is one I tried to LST she aint popped back yet, 1st pick back right

i cut the bottom 6 branches off my plant about a week before flowering. my light would never even reach them so it would be pointless to try and grow them and end up with small airy buds.
