Do Automatics do better under HPS or MH?

If you have a switchable ballast it'd be best to keep them under mh for the first two-three weeks until they've shown sex then switch to hps. This'll help keep them bushier and they won't stretch quite as much. If you are doing perpetual or can only use one or the other then I'd say go w/ hps. It'll give you better yield without sacrificing much during the veg portion of their life.

MH is better for vegetation because of the color spectrum. But if you only have one choice, you can get away with just using an HPS for an auto since they are not long in veg.

What I was hoping for was MH

You could grow Autos while raising Moms of better genetics

Sort of an interim period where you could do Autos and Moms at same time since no Light cycle is needed for the Autos

Hps is not great for Vegging moms or does it matter as much as they say

What about the "Moms" that will be sharing the same space in Veg while the Auots are doing their thing? Will the HPS slow them down? Or will they be fine with the HPS?

Are the Mother plants in flowering or are they in veg too? It's obviously best to have 2 grow rooms, one for veg and one for flowering, but we can't all be that lucky. If all the plants are in veg, then use an MH. Once the auto's switch to flowering, then you are going to have to use an HPS. Like I said, you can grow from start to finish with HPS.

The Idea is to Grow out and veg "Moms" from superior Genetics at the same time doing Autos

A freind of a freind of mine was saying he got all these free Autoflowers at the same time he ordered some seeds. SO he wants to I guess Grow Autoflowers while Vegging the Future "Moms"

Since the "Moms" will be vegging the 2 months the Autoflowers are Growing Can he just go with MH or HPS

Since two grow rooms is not an option, then his best option is to use the MH for as long as the clones are in veg and then switch to HPS when the clones flower. It won't hurt the Mother plants when he switches to HPS. He might get a little stretching in the Mother plants, but overall he will be able to finish his grow with HPS. Hope that helps.

The Idea is to say
Grow Autos at the same time you are Vegging like Reserva Privada og#18s, Jack the Ripper et al

By the time the Autos are finished you would be Finished Vegging and Pre-sexing the Og#18s and the Jack the ripper For Cloning

And what do you think of the Overall Idea of using one grow space for both purposes?

The stretching won't hurt the Mothers at all. It will just be a little taller than under an MH, but it is perfectly fine for taking clones from. As far as the idea for using one tent, it really depends on how big is the tent. If you have a nice sized tent, then you can make it work since you will be using autos.

"tent" is a 4 x 5 x 7 room with 1000 watt hps a 400 watt Switchable and a carbon filter

So my freinds freind can go 1000 watts hps or 400 watts MH or HPS. Its all just in the talking stage. I guess he is floating a lot of ideas around

Here's an idea. Use HPS when the autos start flowering, and put in some 6500K CFL lights too. It's always good to have a mixed spectrum if you can, not one or the other.

Since that is the case, I would just use the 1000w HPS. The 400w won't give you the coverage you need in that sized tent unless you get some more lighting in there with CFL's. If he decides to get some CFL's to help with the lighting, then he can use the 400w switchable. But if it were me, I would just use the 1000w HPS for the entire grow. He will do well with that lighting and get a nice yield.
