If you have a friend with an external 2.5 drive, or you can buy one for around 50 bucks, hook it up and copy the pictures over to a flash drive or something, then wipe them off

They will probably just laugh and compare your pathetic grow to their commercial grow op in their converted computer shop to a grow shop.

Depending on what type of laptop you have you can remove the hard drive. Some of them are very easy and some not so easy. You can look up the procedure on Google for yours. You can then go to Staples, or Radio Shack, or online to Tiger direct to buy a USB connector for the hard drive. Then plug the USB connector into another computer and use it as an external drive. You should then be able to see what is on the drive and get it off. If that is to complicated and I don't mean to insult you, grab some 10 year old geek off the street and offer him or her some edibles and a glass of milk to do the job for you. lol I've been in computer tech for almost 20 years and I can't compete with these youngsters anymore that can text message 60 words per minute on a fucking cell phone.

Your best best is to play it safe and sanitize your hard drive.

Move the questionable files to some other storage temporarily.

USB flash drive, optical media, external hard drive, whatever.

Although it is true they probably won't give a damn, it's not a good idea to put your shit out there like that.

Better safe than sorry.

Does it work plugged into the wall? Does it show anything on the screen at all? Is there a green light indicating it's on? It could be your battery, your monitor, or your motherboard

best buy only cares if they find child porn on a comp anything else they dont care. (knew a guy who was head of the geek squad) + they dont need to go thru your personal folders like that anyways to address problems

What dam said. Something like that isn't important. I work in a comp repair shop, we do stuff like that all the time. It's illegal to check personal files or folders like that without the customers permission first. You could just take it in and tell them to fix it and make it work again, you don't know what's on the HDD, or it's unimportant, they'll give it back to you clean and working like the day you got it.

yea I work on computers almost everyday... Ive seen some sick/crazy shit... but I don't really care at all... im just there to do a job

so if they did see it.. they probably wouldnt care... if they do the motherboard they will probably reformat the drive anyways

They also sell external enclosures that you can put the internal hard drive into, making it an external usb drive. I have one for laptop size drives and one for desktop PCs. I realize you aren't likely to go out and buy one for this, but maybe you know someone who has one. They cost about $70.

If you get access to one, you just remove the drive from your laptop, put it in the enclosure, then plug it in via usb to a working computer. It shows up as an external drive and you can move your pics off.

We all know what the technicians SHOULD not do. What they might be prevented by company policy or law from doing.

When has company policy or law prevented a bad actor from doing something they intended to do?

My point is, why take a chance? Remove any incriminating data before releasing control of the device.

Even if they saw it and did not go to the coppers. Who's to say they would not show up at your door for a taste?

Leaving anything incriminating on the hard drive is an unnecessary risk.
