Pineapple Express waterfarm leaves starting to look ill (pics)

Hi people. If anyone can help....

In veg in tent. 400w MH 18/6. Fan pulling air out top (forget rating, but higher than needs to be)
EC 1.2 ph 5.5 (Canna Flores Veg for hardwater)
Temps 20-30 celsius
Humidity 50-60%
Changed out rez (full change) Monday night and gave the PE a trim of lower leaves. Next day some leaves looked as per pics.

Any ideas?

This is what one of the fan leaves looked like that I removed to allow more light penatration....






This was Monday just before the rez change.

There are only a few that look like the pics in post 1, but it appeared over night so little worried more will go this way. Lights are on 4pm - 10am so lights are off during the warmest part of the day to keep temps as steady as possible.

Ok, so I've checked the plant again this eve and more problems. I can't upload from my iphone without my cable so I will post up pics tomoz. Looking at other threads I think it might be heat stress, but I've not moved the lamp at all and it can't go any higher. Seems a little coincidental that I have one problem and another a day later after I change the rez out

The 400W MH lamp is 16" from the plant. Because it is a small tent, the lamp can't go any higher

what medium are you growing in? im no expert but i think you may have other issuse than heat stress, i think your ph is low (if ur in soil anyway) i keep mine around 6.5 - 6.8, for your height issue's i would look into training them like toping the main stem at the very top new set of leaves, you will have two tops insead of 1 an should keep them abit smaller only do it in veg though, are they not nearly ready to go into flower yet?? like i said no expert here i can only offer suggestions, wait around some1 else bound to take an interest and try to help, give as much info about what medium your growing in water/ feed schedule the more info you give the better people can identify an solve your problems, good luck man

It's in a waterfarm so it's hydro set up. The plant sits in hydroton with a drip ring feeding it. I have topped it once already and I have tied the main side stems down to expose more of the stem and lower nodes to the light. I think the top leaves are heat stress by the looks of other photos but my concern is with the blotches on some of the lower leaves in the first sets of pics. The ph was 5.5 when I changed the rez out on Monday and I noticed the blotching on Tuesday.

On the light 16" is good you don't wanna let it too get much closer than that. I run 400 watters at 14"-16". I'm doing hillbilly hydro, watering by hand method I ph everything to 5.8, 5.5 is on low side Not saying this it! But it's probably something you did when you change the tank on Monday it just took 2 days to mess it up!

heya, yea i thought u musta prob been hydro having it that low, dont know much bout hydro but as u changed the rez an noticed the problems afterwards ghettogrower prob onto something, try to think back, find out if you did anything different/mistakes, you can prob figure it out urself, happy hunting!

I thought it was about the right height for 400W bulb. Although having looked at other pics with the heat stress, I think the TOP leaves are suffering that. It's the bottom leaves that concern me most as it seems to be spreading. It is frustrating as it was doing quite well. This is my first proper grow and all I've done is read and read and read other peoples journals etc before I started so I knew what I was doing, but here I am with problems!

It's annoying! I am worried I might lose the plant. Last night I ph'd some water to 5.8 and topped up the rez as it seems to be kaining the juice at the moment. I'm hoping if I did fuck something up in the mix, the clean water will flush it through. Fingers crossed. I was hoping not to have to pull the waterfarm out as I have tied most of the main branches down to let light into the lower parts of the canopy. If it still looks rough Sunday/Monday I will go for it. Hopefully someone might read this thread and recognise the leaf problem.

pic 1 where the leaf is curling badly in the middle is Magnesium deficiency, and the necrotic spots are potassium deficiency
pic 2 looks like it barley survived some nute burn, it didnt get burned but it got wrinkled.
pic 3 slightly wrinkled heat stress, probably cut from the top of your plant eh?

pic 5 canoeing heat stress, and potasium deficiency slight with brown edges.


the real problem started when you changed to bloom nutes. what is their NPK??
but the real problem is DRUM ROLL...... PH, your PH is totally off, check it please! i would bet my life on it.
the 2nd real problem is that your having your nutes come into contact with your hydroton, hydroton is clay, CLAY ABSORBS N & K thus causing this PH havoc!
also get a fan in there and aim it directly at the top of your plant, that will stop the heat stress. your plants is going to get tall so get some rope and pull the main cola down or to the side a bit, MJ can bend a bit.

1 more thing would be to move your thermo/hygrometer above the canopy suspended by a wire or something. It is always cooler in the shade.

Most hydro systems use hydroton though, Im sure they dont absorb a huge amount of N & K (otherwise people wouldnt use it, lol). The PH level change is due to the salts/dusts in the hydroton. Im also pretty sure they dont absorb much of anything at all. Then they dry out in like 5 minutes... which means just the surface of the pebble is actually wet, thus proving much isnt absorbed or held in the pebble. As opposed to rockwool, for example. Just a theory based on logic.

Hi dirtysnowball.
As it happens it is still in veg and still on veg nutes. My proper grow area isn't ready so I may keep this in veg and use as a mother (if it survives!) depending on how long the grow room takes. This tent is one of the smaller ones (DRII 60) 60x60x160cm. 400W is probably overkill, but I don't have a ballast of 250W bulb. I will check the NPK of the veg and the flower nutes tonight and post them up tomoz so you can anaylse them as I'm just using what I have got. They are from the Canna series of nutes for hydro.
I did thoroughly wash through the hydroton before it was used. And I have had 2 rez changes before this with fresh nutes. First was 0.8EC and the second was 1.0EC. This one that caused the problems was 1.2EC. These are by no mens high values! I must admit I didn't check the pH AFTER the problems showed. Before it went into the CLEANED OUT rez, it was 5.5 like I said.
I need to buy a fan as the one I have is tiny and rubbish.
I have put 1.1EC nutes in from Sunday with Ph5.8 on Sunday. There appears to be no change, which I hope is a good sign as nothing is getting any worse. I have removed the heat stressed top leaves as they are blocking the lower growth.
I will look into what to do to remedy Magnesium deficiency and see what happens.
