Lighting help for a beginner

thank you for your help

also i know you may not know the answer to this but how much heat does the 400W HPS put out, roughly?? As the room i am growing in will not be that warm, and is there a advised minimal temperature that the area should be kept above

Actually, I use a 400w hps for my flower room. It puts out a decent amount of heat but if your temps are already low, you'll need to hook your vent fan up to a thermostat. My grow area is in my basement, so winter temps get down to 58f and the 400w + vent fan + thermostat keep temps at a steady 76-78f.

What size is your grow area? Is it a tent, closet, cabinet?

my grow area is in a loft, which is a smaller space of about 3 or 4m2, so not a big space at all, it has built in ventilation through the wall, and the room beneath has a extraction fan. My winters will be slightly colder than yours dropping to around 8/9 degrees C. Do you think the light will be able to support it, or will i need a fan heater or something along those lines to boost the temp??

well i will receive the light in the next couple of days so am going to run it and check the temp on a regularly basis, from these results will determine if extra heat is need, maybe as winter sets in might need to set something up, does that seem like the right sort of thing to be doing??

Oh, I see... well, the larger the space, the less the light will be able to support temps. If you were to use a tent or cabinet in that space, the light + fan + thermostat would probably maintain your temps. If you use it wide open, then you will definitely need to run a space heater.
