why is it, when we watch wildlife films, of say lions killing each other do we say "that lion killed"
not "that lion murdered"

animals do it for food.
murder is done with intention, without the need for food, shelter, protection... murder is killing someone that cannot be justified by those three reasons

Because we choose not to personify our animals in order to remove ourselves from them...

Thats how hitler convinced his armies to round up everyone for execution...

Humans and animals always cross paths. Except for cattle, bison, chickens, turkeys, fish, shell fish, snails, pork of course, I think that murdering animals for fur and oils, things we do not eat is wrong. Animals are essentially innocent, (they do not have a mind or brain like us, they act on pure instinct, but there are exceptions for sure), and to kill them for horns, or ivory, or just skins is completely human. We do not think.. "animals we're here before us, maybe we should give them respect?" Native American cultures were right to kill only for what they need. You do not waste an animal.

i dont know if you're making a point or actually asking the question, but that definitely made a point, murder is more of killing to make a point, or show that you're tough, or w.e,

and in wild-life 'killing' is more because you have to, for food. good point over-all though,

we absolutely don't need to murder each-other in any circumstances, even though it may be sad, that's why we're at the top of the food chain

So if you have a loaf of bread and I'm starving to death, and we're on a deserted island, and you won't share...I can kill you and it's not murder?

peta says people murder animals... but we say we killed them for fuel. Its the same in the animal kingdom. they dont arbitraily kill... thats what seperates murder from the act of killing. read my previous post

im speaking of terms of people killing animals for food, not people killing other people for food. thats called murder. Its done out of jealousy or spite, or desperation. If you really wanted to survive, you'd learn how to fish, instead of killing me, and eating bread for one day, instead of fish for weeks

well i think in circumstances where you're almost dead, and you're only option is to kill the other guy to survive, then why not? or just both die...

Everybody has their own definition to justify murder. =) Use yours if you wish. ;) I say murder isn't right or wrong, it's natural. People saying animals only kill for food are morons.

Animals kill to establish dominance, food, etc... But we're not animals, we have higher reasoning, which changes motive. We have the power to hunt animals, grow our own food, provide our own shelter. We have higher reasoning and intelligence to fight for dominance.
Murder is killing without just cause

this is not always the case. animals kill for control, or kill for mating rights, they kill for ego. is then then murder? the thing is fighting is the oldest and most primal instinct. any one of us can kill but only the law can brand you a murderer. murder is a crime killing is not. i know its not wrong, its all in the reasoning weather or not it will be branded murder. "i aint never kilt a man that didnt need killin' i forgot where i read this but it was this morning... i laughed

So animals are purely excused, but since we have higher reasoning our motives are now impure?
animals dont have the right to choose. we do. our motives can be thought out, we can change. animals do what their ancestors were bred to do. we are bred to live, and think. unfortunately this gives us a concious. animals have no right or wrong... but we do.

Murder is the unlawful premeditated killing of another human being. That has already been established. I really dont think people are going to take your definition over Oxfords Urca.
