lost power how long can they go

So I have a dwc and my plants are on 12 and 12 now and we lost power. I was wondering how long can they go without light and the air pump being on? They said power might be out for days. Is there anything I can do so the roots don't rot? I didn't know if I should lower the water level to almost nothing?

i wouldnt say hours on the pump but for sure no longer than a day. Figure out something my friend! Change the water in your containers by hand. All you need to do is a get new water with oxygen in it!

I would empty your pots out, and hand water them a couple times a day. As others have said, it is bad to let the water go stagnant.

You can always spray the roots with water, to keep them from drying out.

As far as your light goes, You could put a floro lantern in there for 12 hours a day, and that would keep the 12/12 on schedule.

thanks, i took the water out of the res and the power came back on.. figures as soon as i get it ready it comes back

Invest in a power inverter that is big enough to run your pumps and maybe a light or two so that you won't have this problem again. Good luck.

thats why i dont run DWC, you're fucked if your air stones fail

I use to run 5gal buckets, top drip with a 5 gallon res, the buckets would be raised 6 or so inches from the floor via a net put i used as a stand. Oakland bay area is notorious for black outs, but when they came i had no worries because the rasing of the buckets caused gravity to push the water into the res, therefore there was only about an 1-2 of water in the buckets.

That's smart thinking Never Outgunned... I'm glad I don't have to worry bout blackouts... Worse comes to worst we might have an ice storm in feb and lose a few hrs of power...

yeah when the power did go out once for 4hours, i was so relieved i didn't skip that part!
