Hey d-^^ sorry to hear about the damage. Well maybe something else will come of good this week. How are the rest of your babies doing buy the way. Going to pick up some pollen later going to hit the Cross with it. keepem green dirrtyd
I understand "shit happens" in the farmers world, but I spent a lot of time and effort not to let this happen again. I fought a gopher issue last year, they got a Mind Bender X Afghangooey and a Chemo Cindy. I'm just pissed off that my efforts went for not. Smart pots next year. That's why I listen to old timers, not too much they havn't seen or done... Not that I'm old...lol
Treeman, sorry to hear about the gopher problem, the life of a farmer is full of things to overcome.. Luck to you my friend.
If giving is better than receiving, then why isn't everyday Christmas?
I used chicken wire also, friend brought in gravel and didn't have another problem with plant loss, seems the gophers dislike gravel?I understand "shit happens" in the farmers world, but I spent a lot of time and effort not to let this happen again. Nope, she's done. I tried to save the Chemo Cindy last year, and I did, but it was for not. She grew tiny little buds that went into the hash bucket. When I harvested the Chemo, she still had about 10%-15% of the root system there, but she was starving. I'm not going through that again.I feel ya TMB.
I also spent a ton of time and a bit of cash to avoid the gophers; they have caused me heartache plenty. Any chance your plant will make it?
Hops
They don't like gravel but they will dig through piles of it when they feel like it. They will take the easy road when available but will dig through almost any type of dirt mix. My dad tried broken glass around a couple of ornamental trees to try to get them started. It worked for a while but they eventually had a network of tunnels there, and broken glass pushed up to the surface - then he had two problems.I used chicken wire also, friend brought in gravel and didn't have another problem with plant loss, seems the gophers dislike gravel?
Hey Joz-Fuckin' a. That sucks TMB! I put mine in containers when I noticed gophers eating all my morning glories earlier in the season, they are such little fuckers, they undo so much of my hardwork! How far into flowering was the victim?
Yea I thought I had it all figured out. I'm not sure what a "Vole" is, never herd of them before (time for a internet look up). No stock damage from a rat, definitely under the surface.daaaamn fuckin little bastards!! I hate em'!! shoot bro sorry to hear it, but it sounds like you said the only one that got it was the one you ran short on material for. Smart pots are great, I love em' but after 1 year in the ground, and now 1 in 200 gallon smart pots, I'm goin' back in the ground next year.No root restriction equals bigger plants, period. Besides the other folks where I grow lost 3 plants to voles this year, and they were all in smart pots, soooo they're not 100% safe either.Check that too TMB, make sure it wasn't a vole or a field rat chewing on the stalk.
