Going to build a aeroponics system + rep given

using 4x4 pvc posts.
My question is do these things work?
Where are good places to get spray heads?
Will running 2 spray heads per net pot work better than having just one.
Can I run this 24/7 or do I need a timer?
Where do I get these Recycle timers?

My system will be 3 4 foot long tubes and 2 2 ft long tubes Holes spaced 6 inches apart
if i filled in all holes would I have problems with Roots choking off the system?

What Size rez? or just go with the biggest one that will fit.

ETA
This will just be used for flowering

Lets see here :

4x4 post will work as long as you dont hold water in them. They can not hold more than like hold full of water laying on there sides before they break or bend.

Spray heads : Lowes unless you want something fancy

2 sprays per netpot : yes

run it 24/7 : You are not running a aeroponics system so therefor you could either run it 24/7 or with a normal timer. "Aeroponics by definition is sub 50micron water droplets. Unless you are getting high dollar pumps and shit well....."

Root Choking : Man I have used a similar system for YEARS and there is indeed a happy medium. Its trials and error unfortunately. Depends on veg time, strains, blah blah blah

reservoir size : for the most part yes the bigger the better. 20-30 gallons will probably be fine.

By the way, I dont mean to be a smart ass about the aeroponics thing. Its just a common mis-understood thing. BUT on a good note, dude I grew in a system that sounds like what you are wanting to build but I just used 6" pvc pipe. SHIT IS GANGSTA! Enjoy

The 6 inch pipe is more affordable. What I dont know about is . The radius of the pipe. Is there leakage between the hole and the net pot because of it?

duke i grew in the system your talking about the first round n had many obsticals to overcome. when all the kinks are sorted out i think its a good system but it did not fit my grow style. i will probably try it again in the future just for kicks but im hooked on dwc n undercurrent systems. much less maintenance and no more flooding or coming in to sick plants that havent had water for 8 hours lol. check the first few pages of my journal to see how the aero your talking about was set up n ran. then check out the last few pages n see what im running now. good luck n ill answer any qs you have if you ask.

I have a bit of skill in this, aero DIY setups. when it come to spray heads for LP aero I liked the red tops, you can get them at hydrofarms
as for the timer if you can get one to work and not fail then yes its needed but if it fails its a loss faster than you can say wtf!!
the systems work very well if you work the bugs out I trashed mine after I lost 30 choice clone:( I did get three batchs before the
melt down though lol. with aero you wont need a real large res 25gal should be fine. cycle timers are the weak link cant help you there
due to not wanting to be responsable for a loss on your part.

1. Yes they work good, my only problem with them is roots tangle. All good if you don't plan to move the plants

2. http://www.horticulturesource.com/general-hydroponics-6-ft-laser-drilled-sprayline-p1738/?osCsid=812dd796cf9031e2951d0171bd53795e
Most new systems use this. It is just a line with holes that spray high pressure. The stream hits the side of the tubing making mist.

3. It could but doubt it is needed. Most people run the pump for like only 1 min then 5 off. Also depends if you use medium.

4. Best to have timer otherwise you run risk of rot from over watering. You only want to wet the roots then let the m dry and repeat.

5. http://www.horticulturesource.com/cap-art-dne-adjustable-recycle-timer-p9423/?osCsid=812dd796cf9031e2951d0171bd53795e
Or Google 555 timer if your a DIY kinda guy.

I use a 45 gallon tote for a res with my aero20 with an air stone in it. I use air stone in my res to keep any roots out of the pump.

Any questions feel free to ask me. Good Luck!:blsmoke:

Awesome Reply. At the Price of 85 bucks for the recycle timer I think i can Build a 555 timer myself

The reason i want to build my own other than cost savings is I have a Unique space that has smaller widths than say the Aeroflo2 60

make sure you put a screen over the drain and also give some thought in 6x6 tubes and use silk screen on the entire bottom use 1/4" tubing to make a frame the roots will not get threw the silk screen and water will run to the drain without becoming dammed up in the mess of roots you will have........................

Can you give a source? It seems the HPA guys just want to rule anything other than HPA out as not truly Aeroponic. I understand arguing this could be classified as NFT. My argument is, Low pressure systems are still classified as Aeroponics.

If you have a computer with an lpt port you can build a timer with an AVR µC (for real small try an ATTiny85) its not much more complicated then the 555 and you can program it too! you can use your lpt to program it, all it takes IIRC was like 3 100ohm resistors to make a programmer.

I would be going for LPA

Duke, as far as your timing goes 1st i need to know how you plan to cycle your water pump. Some use 1min on 5min off using a 555 timer or a ready made timer from a hydro supplier. Some use a hot water heater timer 15min on 30 min-45min off. These hot water heater timers are in any hardware store.

I wouldn't use 2 spray heads per net cup i would put the sprayers half way in between each net pot and it will spray both of them. 2 Won't hurt anything , but not needed. Look on ebay for a cycle timer. Last one I bought i paid 26 bucks for free shipping.

Uhm I think I am changing my mind. But thanks for the Helpful tips
I remember ebb and grow. Great results but you know if that pump goes out and you aint there You're done
PH spikes. Clogged misters

Maybe i'm not ready to drive the sports car
