My wife thinks I killed my plant

Hey guys, this is my first grow and you have all been very helpful this season. I have a lavender plant that is about two weeks into flowering. Last night I was reading about someone who would cut off all of his big water leaves when his girls started flowering so all the nutes and water go straight to the buds and not to the leaves. So I went out and cut all my big water leaves off. It made sense to me, especially since when you do trim her up a little bit the sun will be able to get to more of the plant. As I said, my wife thinks I killed her. Anyone else hear of someone doing this? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Here is a pic of my girl right before she started flowering. You can see why I wanted to trim. I couldn't get a pic of her afterwards to come up on this comp.(at work) Ill post one later. Happy growing my friends.

Doesn't look dead. However, I feel that if one is to cut all tje water leaves that it would eventuslly kill the plant since that's part of the water uptake delivery system. I've done a lot of pruning and tying etc that my growth slowed for almost 2 weeks. Could be that you're dealing with.

hmm how much did you cut? can you give me a guesstimate % from the pic above?

I dnt prune anything but lower branches that doesn't get any sunlight at all ..at about 6 weeks flowering I prune alittle more for more air circulation around my buds so mold/mildew won't be a problem. All my plants usually shed leaves on its on later in flowering anyway .. don't be suprised if you dnt see any growth for a couple days to a week depending on how bad u stressed your plant

i chopped the shit oput of my plants when they started budding, they recouped. i shouldnt have taken as much as i did but she should be fine, weed is a pretty hardy plant as long as you dont kill them with nutes.

once they get that big they are hard to kill by just trimming off leaves, you may have shocked it and stunted her growth but prob wont die

Sry for the late reply(still at work). I trimmed a good 10-15% of the water leaves. now by stunting growth do you mean she wont get taller or the buds wont form right or what? And do you think she will hermi on me?

i think you will be fine my friend, a mere 15-20% of the total water leaves, wich am i right in thinking a water leaf is the same as a fan leaf?

either way i doubt that will even phase it

as far as hermie, no idea i though that happened during flower stage and if its already a female.....but i dont know much about hermies

My thinking is light travels thru MJ leafs. If your leafs are reaching for the sky they are out of the way anyway. Also the plant gets lots of it's energy from the leafs. I do trim leafs that touch the ground when the plant is wet.

Take a simple flashlight and shine it up under your plant. You will see how light travels right thru a pot leafs. So my thinking is why trim anything for more light reasons?

Trimming is unnecessary with such a healthy plant, though at least you can hope she regenerates strong to ensure maturation/reproduction.

horrible idea.

botany 101: the green areas of the plant absorb light and through the magic of photosynthesis convert H2O and CO2 into carbs (what the plant needs to produce) with O2 as a byproduct.

in other words, the leaves you cut off are the solar cells, the powerhouses of the plant.

your plant may not die, but you have severely stunted her growth and production potential depending on how much you chopped.

the only time to get rid of leaves is when they are dying anyway or for manicuring/training purposes.

the way it was put to me is this way: why did mother nature put all those damn leaves in the way!

ok so I took some pics of her after I trimmed her(finally). Its been almost a week since I trimmed her and I dont see any negative changes at all. Check it out and let me know if I trimmed too much so I know not to do that next time. So here is my girl before I trimmed her- and here is a pic of her after I trimmed her- The pics are at different angles so dont let that fool you. I just trimmed the large water leaves.
