So here is my city's water quality report. I just want to make sure that using my tap water would be alright. I've been using distilled water and have some cal/mag issues that I would like to address by switching to tap.. I have a gallon that has been sitting for 24 hours... Based on this info.. is it safe to use my tap?

Thanks!

thanks for the info man.. but no homie's i know are growing right now ;) if anybody else would like to chime in i'd appreciate it.. i can probably get a PPM meter in a couple weeks to check but by then would be a little too long to treat the cal/mag problems my plant has now..

I will be honest..... Your water sounds alot like mine.... Tap water sucks.... Buy yourself a Small Boy chlorine and sediment filter.... You run your tap water through it, and its great for the girls... They are only like $200, and worth their weight in gold...

so as long as I let the tap water sit fo 24 hours and get that chlorine out, my tap is fine to use?

The chlorine wont come out unless you filter it.... Its not necessarry to let it sit 24 hours, just make sure you have an air stone in your resevior at all times....

It sounds like your gonna just use the water anyways...let a gallon sit two days, is what I do...but I Ph my water as well.
It may sound that way but i can always go get some evian water with minerals as ive already been buying distilled water.. dont have access to calmag around here.. no one carries the stuff..

Your tap water is fine. You might adjust the pH down to around 7, but pH'ing the water is kinda ridiculous, as most buffered soil is gonna change it anyway. It's the run-off that you wanna keep an eye on. Use your tap, and you'll probably never have a mineral deficiency. At least, not a cal/mag issue anyway. If you are really concerned, run your water thru a Brita or Pur filter. They are mostly activated carbon filters, and will remove chlorine and bacteria down to 1 micron.

They didn't test for calcium or magnesium in your water report. Based on the fact you ph is greater than 7, I would say your tap would have enough of both. Chlorine WILL disipate out after 24 hours of sitting. Are you growing in soil or hydro?

I'm confused on you saying they didn't test for mag or cal.. i see them listed..

Calcium 23.4 PPM (average)
Magnesium 9.1 PPM (average)

I'm growing in soil.. FFOF.. i put a gallon of tap sitting out yesterday and ph'd it from 8.0 to 7.0... i just added 1 tablespoon molasses to it, shook it up real good and let it sit for an hour.. checked my PH.. 7.0.. i watered my girl so we'll see how she does until next watering/feeding\

As for chlorine evaporating out, that is true if chlorine was being used but from the report it states that chloramine is being used and that doesn't evaporate.. the chloramine residual is stated as 1.28PPM (average) so eitherway i'm not worried ;)
