Hello I have recently started my first grow and im using 5000K/6500K lighting for vegetative state and im wondering which would be best for vegetative?

5000k or 6500k?

they are also T8 48" flourescant bulbs

I am also wondering if it would be better to have all one kind or the other? or to mix them? i have mixed right now 2 bulbs 5000K, 4 bulbs 6500k.

Also is there anything I can do to help unfeminized seeds to stay female? cause i germinated 5/10 of my 50% male/female seeds and they are all male I think.:cry:

p.s. let me know if u wanna see pics of my plants im still un sure of. I had 5, two of which have been destroyed for safety purposes because they were male. The 3 I have left are male also i believe but like I said im a first timer and am not experienced in gardening at all.

When did they germinate, and how did you determine that the plants were male? Pics are always helpful.

The lighting thing is arguable (and you should see plenty of that) But I believe you have it nailed with a mixed spectrum. I've used both HPS and MH thru both phases and saw no noticeable difference

Best to use half and half 6500k and 2700k bulbs. I found some 48" t8 buls at Menards on sale 2 for $4.99 and they had both 6500k and 2700k

I agree that lighting is arguable... I have also used each light through a grow, and if you use MH through flower you get fluffy bud. If you have the same hard nugs with MH as HPS.. I'd like to see pics.

Metal Halide Nugs. There may very well BE a difference, but I get the same results with only HPS as well. I personally don't see one. IF there is a difference in yield, it would be measured in grams in my garden. These nugs are hard as rocks. 'Course I grow only 1 strain as a rule. I change up periodically, but I had my JH dialed in. I had settled in to using a mixed spectrum, and will continue that.

Like I said earlier, there's a lot of debate about lighting. You'll get good results which ever way you grow.

I didn't get that much a difference in weight when I did a 1000 watt MH flower vs a 1000 watt HPS flower other than - the bud was WAY fluffier, but it was more "crystally"... just an observation.. but I go by what I see by doing - not what I read online. Your room- your set up... may be different.

EXACTLY!! I think strain has a lot to do with it as well. Indicas seem to be harder than Sativas. Those in the pics were an Indica dom JHxAfghani.

No, under 3 1K MH. There were 72 of them in 2 gal gro-bags on a 4x8 flood table. I lolli-pop.
